I rode to Sturgis this past summer from San Francisco on my '00 Fat Boy. I went to the Harley event in Rapid City and fell for the black/orange '07 FLHTCUSE2 they had on the floor. I kept thinking about it on the way home while I was driving in top gear at 80mph with my engine screaming high revs. "I wonder what it would feel like having a sixth gear" kept resonating through my head.

After I got back I asked the local dealer in Oakland to let me know when one came in. When the call came I went over to look at it. They wanted $4k over list and would not budge on price. I was shocked since I have never paid over list for a motorcycle. I was a new customer to them who was ready to purchase on the spot. No deal. I told them that I would be willing to wait for another one to come in. No deal!

Fortunately I was able to find another dealer within an hour after I left Oakland who was only too happy to sell me the bike at list. I have to wait until November, but that's no big deal for me.

My question is how often do dealers mark up CVO models over list? Is this a common practice among Harley dealers?

Thanks,
Clyde

I'm curious.......most of us in Nor Cal knows that Bob Droan has a huge mark up and lousey customer service.......but who is the dealership that did you right?  Just curious [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I had to put my name on the next one coming in for the Black/Orange Ultra here in Portland OR.  Latus Motors was great they sold it to me at MSRP and within a month I picked it up.  The bike so far has been well worth it.   :)

JCZ,

I ordered mine from Dudley Perkins. They sold it to me at list. It should arrive any day as it was shipped from York on 11/17.

Be well,

I have purchased 3 Bikes in 3 years from OCALA HD and a TON of parts and accessories as they gave me a 20% discount until about 3 weeks ago when they backed it down to 10. I alos was responsible for 2 others buying a total of 3 bikes (grand total 3 new, 3 only a year old). I went to the General Manager personally to plead my case. I asked him to pull up my record as I purchase almost everything there as I could get 10% off pretty much anywhere. He wouldn't even go look and said he could not do it. I know for a fact that there are others that get 20% still.

Anyway, they sell there SE's at $3,000 over MSRP to me or anyone else. I REALLY love the staff there. On a first name basis with most. It grieves me as I will probably not go back there unless I absolutely need to. If they would give me what any other dealer would for my trade and sell at just a little over MSRP I would do it. But oh well.......... it's there business not mine. I wish em the best and will miss them dearly.

Robmay,
Hey buddy...your neighbor here....I am in the same boat with Ocala HD. I bought the first 07 CVO Ultra from them(you know, the one you wanted, hehe), and when it came in, Mark told me $3000 over MSRP, and tried to get me to give him more than the $1000 in downpayment I already gave him to hold the order. I refused, and asked for my money back. When I did that, he balked, and told me he would give me $3000 over book value for my trade(I checked the book value before going in). That pretty much evened it out, and made it like paying MSRP in my mind. But I have to tell you, I will never go back there to buy a new bike. I have recieved ZERO follow up on my purchase! No "how you like it", nothing. My buddy bought his Ultra in orlando early last year, and he is still getting phone calls and certificates for free services, etc....I get nothing! I let them have it on the survey I got in the mail from an outside company, but they will not even read it probably.
Also, I got 20% off in accessories for over 5 years, and they told me(after my purchase of the CVO), that I get 10%. I told them to stick it.
I am so disappointed....I live in Ocala, so they are really convenient for me, but I cannot understand why they are treating me this way now.
Eventually, I want to get some pipes, AC, etc and dyno, but I really do not want to give them anymore business, so I am waiting. But I might balk and have to go there, as they are so close. I will never buy another bike there though, for sure.
It sucks..I buy the most expensive bike the company makes, and I am treated like a number....maybe I put to much emphasis on customer service, I don't know, but I am very bummed with Ocala HD.

sailfish - I agree with you,the price you pay for a SEUC you should be treated with a little more respect. I know for what I paid for my 07 SEUC I could have bought 2 of almost every other bike on the floor

I had a similar experience.  I have a good relationship with my current dealer where I got my Heritage.  I recently asked them if they wanted to sell me a SERK at MSRP, and they said that they are at $2k above MSRP.  Too bad, I would have liked to have bought it there as it is only about 20 miles from my house.  I have a couple of other HD stores closer, but they just are not as good as American Eagle.

So, I contacted Red River in Iowa City, TX and they are willing to sell them at MSRP!! [smiley=jalapeno.gif]  My friend at work has purchased two through them, so I know they are great to deal with and according to him, they have a great service dept. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif].  I will give them all of my service work, even though it is about 100 miles from the house.  Great ride through north Texas to get there.  They are also building a new store that will open in the Spring.
( I am not affiliated with either store).

I work in the automotive industry, and we strongly encourage our dealers to never sell above MSRP, even on new, hot selling models.  Some do it anyway, and probably suffer the consequences. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

It seems more dealers are selling over on CVO's than any other model.  I wonder if the boys up north are still getting over sticker on these bikes??

I saw my first '07 SE RK (Cobalt Blue) at a "remote" dealer in Southern Oregon. They had it listed at MSRP. After some definite soul searching to convince me that I was ready to part with that kind of cash, I started checking prices at dealers closer to home. All three dealers in the Portland-Vancouver area were listing the SE RK's for as much as 5K over MSRP. They claim it is due to higher overhead costs and their cutting edge M/O shops. Frankly, I know of no one that has had much of any sucess stories with these particular shops so I cried B.S.! In then end, I did a dealer search all over the N.W. and found my Razor Red beauty at a dealer in Kennewick, Washington and yes, you guessed it, at MSRP. I did manage to shell out few "K" on some accessories before getting her out the door. But - the folks at Shumate (Kennewick) were great. Don't know why the other guys have to be so greedy but I'm fine knowing that I had to go 300 miles to get mine. Made for a nice break-in ride home to boot.

I think the deals are now out there.  Sometimes it is just a personnel change that changes policy.  I could have bought my CVO at 4 over locally, and up to 10 over at Daytona.  But through a freind I got one at MSRP up in NC

Now my local dealer changed around and with a little pushing, will sell their allotment at MSRP.  Pisses me off, but it is for the best long term to rebuild the relationships they lost becasue of this buggerring.  Seminole Harley.

The deal I got was MSRP at the closest dealer to me. They had one SERK coming in that wasn't spoken for. It came to a couple of bucks over $31,000 out the door + the first service is free and with a 20% discount coupon that is good for one year. Dealer told me the best thing to do is

I stopped by their new store (out by the airport) yesterday.  They had a Springer CVO on the floor and one from last year that they were giving $1500 off of MSRP.  The deal is their set up is so high, even on last years model.

HD of Sacramento.......MSRP plus $700 set up, regardless wether it's your first bike purchase there or tenth. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  I guess that's why their CVOs are sold long before they come in.  By doing it that way, they're already making a profit off of the service end of them while Oakland or SF are still sitting on the floor.

In September a friend informed me they had a red SERK at a dealer about 30 miles away, I went to look at it, loved it but had a hard time justifying the 50% premium over the Street Glide I was considering.  Two days later I took my wife up to look at them and she said
