The days of adding additional markup to the already excellent profit margin at MSRP may be grinding to a halt as we speak.

In my travels and stops at HD Dealerships in the East, looks like you can purchase a CVO bike at MSRP, many paces with no set up fee or freight.

I bought my '06 SE Ultra @ MSRP and also my '07 @ MSRP, no freight or set up.  Supply is definitely starting to pass demand.  Saw a lot of discounting on left over CVOs, especially V-Rods.

For those years when (seemingly) the majority of dealers marked up over MSRP some the argument could definitely be made that it was a standard and understandable business practice dictated by a demand grossly exceeding supply.  Now, however, it is a distinct minority who regularly try to hold out for premiums over MSRP.  They may or may not consider themselves price gougers.  They are, however, the dinosaurs of the marketplace.  And we all know what eventually happened to most of dinosaurs.  They either evolved into birds and became nimble again or the big ungainly ones died.  An interesting metaphor for the future of the bike shops.

The dealership I bought my B&O SEUC from charged $1000 over MSRP, for only the CVOs for obvious reasons...they sell the rest of their bikes as MSRP.  Unfortunatley, they were the only dealership within a reasonable amount of distance, that I could even get one that wasn't already spoken for, and I still had to wait over two months for it to come in.  In all fairness though, he did give me about $1K over what I was expecting for my tradin-so I guess I, in a round about way, got it for MSRP.  But I look at it this way, I got my SEUC, and I love it!!!!  [smiley=orange.gif] [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

MSRP seems to be the norm over here in the UK, but then that is still way over the price you good people pay in the USA. Nearly $38,000 for a new FLHRSE3 over here.

Any markup, IMHO, is way too much!!!  I would never pay over, as there is already about a 25% markup on these bikes.  I saw the invoice for my FLSTCI.  That is a very fair margin, not counting what they dealer can make on F & I, parts, accessories, and labor.

MSRP is just that: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, it's not cut in stone. Can we all spell Sherman Antitrust Act ? I would suspect that 25-27% over dealer cost equates to the MSRP. Then there's the uncrating, washjob, and fixing what should never have left the factory in that condition stuff.....but hey we're addicts!
