Ok, I'll toss my $02 in here. I don't blame a dealer for getting as much as he can out of anything he sells. Isn't that what this country is all about? Supply and demand drives the market. $4,000 over list? I'd feel free to shop elsewhere. Whenever I, as a buyer, decide to purchase a Harley, or any other item, I look at several things besides the cheapest price. Where am I going to have the bike serviced? Although I'm not above buying at one dealership and getting service at another, I'm not proud of it, and I try to remain loyal to one dealership. I expect that dealership's loyalty in return.

I'm in a situation now. I bought my bike from one dealer, but having it Dyno'ed and tuned at another dealer. They seem to welcome the business as it's generally slow in the winter. I'd find it very hard to go to this dealer who's doing the tuning and "Demand" anything. I will say that I will have to strongly consider the "Tuning" dealer the next time I trade motorcycles.

To earn my business, a dealer needs to be competetive, friendly, and offer service after the sale. In return, I will give that dealer first and last shot before I just trade elesewhere. I wouldn't move to a different dealer for $500 or even $1,000 on a $35,000 motorcycle.

Maybe it’s different where you live, but my experience in Va is a Follows. I bought Stock 2001 UC from a Va Dealer complete with a 95 build and chrome loaded before I picked it up. Base price 18K after build and chromed out 29K delivered in 9/2001.

Before I got back for my 1K check up, The Person I worked with on the bike was fired as well as the Parts and Service manager. So to the new people at the dealer I wasn’t even a returning customer.

Then in 06 when I started looking for a CVO, The VA dealers don’t know you unless you buy a bike from them ever year- Tell you they Can’t get them or they are for the big spenders.

I did find my CVO on the east coast and I would return to that dealer and have it serviced (except he’s 500 miles from me and North where the real –cold and snow is.) When I need Dealer Service I take it to a Dealer close to me who still doesn’t know who I am or cares as long as my cash doesn’t bounce.

35K is about the right price based on the parts book if you where to take a Stock 96 UC and build it to a 110 and chrome it and add the Gps and all the other stuff from the parts book it would be more than that.

The Dealer doesn’t really care one way or the other, because most of the newer dealers will not last until the end of this decade, unless someone starts moving the inventory out the door. They will end up just like some of the many car dealers that are hanging on with a lot of unsold product on the lots.

VaZhog,

I can't say I disagree with what you are saying. Isn't that pretty much the way in America anymore? If an airline looses your luggage, WHO cares? If the IRS accidently overcharges you too much, WHO Cares? If we take our business elsewhere, WHO cares?

Fatboy, actually I went to 4 rivers for service and I haven't bought any bikes from them. The Promotional discounts was for HD parts and accessories, and I didnt use any. Everything was aftermarket. I did however get Loyalty points. I figure If I keep saving Chrome points from my Visa and Loyalty points from purchasing chrome, soon i'll earn enough credits for a free CVO.

WELL ;  what  a  topic. i  was  a  lucky  one  i.. i desided  to  walk  into a  dealer on 6/5/06  looking  for a  ultra  , they  said  that  they  have 1 in  back ..  but i  told  them  that  i  really  wanted a FLHTCUSE  they  went and  checked  the  books  and  said  by  dumb  luck  a  guy  just  cancelled  is  offer  and  1  is  available..  my  next  question  was  what  color - being  that i  only  liked 1  color  being  the  black candy crimson..  well  i  was  lucky  that  was the  1  that  he  had  cancelled  the  offer  on.
i  then  asked  when  it  would  be  coming  in, he  looked  it up on  the  computer  and  said  it was  shipped  from  YORK , PA.   that  morning ..  well  i  told  them  that  it  was  mine now ,  and  asked how  much    IT  WAS  AT  LIST W/ NO SHIPPING AND  SETUP  , $31,995 ... WELL I  GOT A  CALL ON  6/8/07   .. AND  WAS  TOLD  THAT MY  BIKE WAS  READY  TO  BE  PICKED  UP ON  THAT  AFTERNOON ...  MY  GIRL-FRIEND THEN  TOLD ME THAT I  COULD NOT EVER SELL THIS  BIKE  BECAUSE IT  WAS MADE TO  BE  MINE  FROM  THE  FIRST NUT AND BOLT... thanks

WOW

Now that's a true statement.
Hadn't thought about that.
Well, actually try to "not" think of that!

... If the IRS accidently overcharges you too much, WHO Cares? If we take our business elsewhere, WHO cares?

Actually, I work at the IRS, and we really do care.  We are all just normal folks trading our hours for the gov't dollars, just like most folk, and we don't want one penny more than what is owed.  In fact, if all the rich folk would just pay their fare share, us poorer folk would have our tax debt lowered quite substantially.  But the crazy congress gets involved in the legal system and ties the laws and rules up in knots and for the very wealthy, you can darn near drive a semi through the rules.  We do our very best though to go after the tax skippers, to try and make it more fair for every last one of us.   Sorry, stepping off  :soapbox:.  Thanks for listening.   ;)

But I really hate the idea of paying one small penny over what I should have to pay for anything.  Be it milk and bread or a car or motorcycle.  I believe we each should have the right to get honest day's pay for honest day's work, and to gouge someone is just plain not nice and I wish it could be illegal.

MrsWeCvo, you HAVE to know I wasn't directing anything at you. Wasn't actually directing it at the IRS. I was just sorta on a rant about people not caring in general. Am I in trouble AGAIN?  ;D

It's great when you find a dealer that sells all bikes at or below MSRP.
