Was thinking of changing my exhaust system myself and was wondering how many hours it would take to do it. Going from a 2 into 1 back to duals. Thanks

I have seen a few that can take up to 3 hrs to change a set of plugs!!

Screamin08, don't forget to change the exhaust gaskets and to retighten everything after a few hundred miles. I have seen a ton of exhaust leaks from riders that think that you can put them on and forget about them.

If your paying to have it changed they shouldn't charge more than one hour lablour!

Allow your self at least 3-4 hours from removing the old system, replacing gaskets and installing the new system.
Cover all the chrome with microfiber cloths, protect cooling fins around the exhaust ports with cardboard or foam padding and put some ductape around the frame down tubes to eliminate scratches from tools.

Follow the manuals procedure and all will go together smoothly.

I changed out my exhaust a few days ago. I went from stock to Fullsac D/X Pipe and Rinehart Racing 4" mufflers. I'm not a bike mechanic, I work with computer systems, so this experience is from a novice/weekend-warrior point of view. The entire project from locking my bike on the lift to rolling it outside for a test run was 2 hours 47 minutes. Granted, I didn't mask off any of the bike so that cut out some time, I just moved slowly and purposefully, kind of like you have to when playing the game Operation

It is easier using a lift but it is not necessary.  I replaced the stock headers on an Ultra Limited with the front wheel in a Condor chock.  It would have been easier if the bike was elevated and the job might have gone a little quicker.

You don't have to have a lift. You can do it on the ground just be careful. If and when you get a lift, you will be spoiled and probably not want to do it on the ground. But I have done it several times not on a lift.

This is very important.  Follow the directions to the letter or you will have issues later.  Not hard to do, just take a bit of time to do it right.
