Last year I did two big trips and put 40 000 KM. I had my oil filter loosen a bit and oil started to leak out on the right side of the engine. This happened twice. I found that it would happen at about 6 000 km. I now carry an oil filter wrench with me. My buddy with a 2011 CVO Convertable never had this problem. He also put about 40 000 km and we both ride at the same speed. Maybe there is more vibration on a CVO Street Glide. I also found when I was in the hotter states we would burn or lose a little oil after 6 000 km. My buddy and I would just get a quart and split it between our bikes. Best scenario is if you can get an oil change done. You would avoid both problems.

But if the manual calls for an oil change at 8000 km/5000 miles (when to change oil is for another thread....lol) and you are on the road you sometimes tend to push it to that number. Put 64 000 km on my ride in the last 2 years.

I had a similar leak on my 2011 ultra limited.  Turned out to be that bikes with an oil cooler have an adapter that the oil filter center mounting screw holds on to the oil filter base.  On mine this threaded mount was loose.  It's hollow and will accept a hex key (alan key).  Just needed about a 1/2 turn to tighten it.

Had this exact problem on two different V8s (350 Chev, Super Stock Hemi). Definitely worth checking.

Picked up my 2012 Ultra CVO in early August did the 1k service then left for 2 weeks pulling a bushtec trailer. From SE Pa. up through Maine, New Brunswick around Cape Breton, over to Prince Edward Island and up to the top of mount Washington on the way back. Great ride on an awesome bike. Already have this years ride planned out, heading for a southern route.

With 80,000 miles on my 09, we have done several 5,000+ mile trips without a problem. These bikes are built for the long distance. Have fun and stay safe.

You pulled a trailer on the Dragon! Ive riden it many times never seen that!

Yep..   3 times. Deals gap to the turn out on the east end back to the gap and back east to pigeon forge. The trailer pulls great and allowed me to ride it like I stole it.  We were traveling east to west and I did have a place to drop it. The above pic says it all

Jim Campbell rode his 08 cvo ultra 30,000 miles in 30 days and raised money for the MDA , that must answer the question at the start of this thread

Longest trip for me Taylorsville, NC to Boise, ID and back. And can't forget Yellowstone - Glacier loop while there. I was on my SEUC and my son was on his RKC, so I guess standard Harley's do as good. 7460 total.
'Missed Glacier in '10 due to drama, Yellowstone was awesome, 2nd time out there on the '05 SEEG, (Sturgis '05&'10)HDs are a BLAST!!!
