CVO cams
« on: March 04, 2013, 10:03:43 AM »

Just wondering could anyone tell me what year the moco went with the hydraulic tensioners and roller chain setup?  Also I hear a lot of people talking about the 259 cams what would they do for me and my 110 thanks in advance.  By the way she already has stage one true duals and a screaming eagle race tune.

They did this with the new motor style cases.   07 for FLH's and I believe the dyna's showcased this in 06.

On the 07, 110 i would recommend being sure all the customer related recalls, upgrades, or whatever they want to call them are done.   Make sure your rockerboxes have been clearanced, you have the new headgaskets, and that you get the newer heads/compression releases.

Beyond that the upgrades will be what suites you and your riding style.   Note if the heads are coming off for any of the recall work if not done be a perfect time to save labor money to get something done  ::)

thanks for the reply I'm probably going to be happy with the 90 horsepower and 115 foot pounds of torque, the only reason I'm buying this bike, is my old 01 has 10 1/2 to 1 compression and it doesn't like pump gas.

You can still make decent power at 10 to 1 you just need a porter who can keep the velocity in the heads.    Wouldnt let one bad experience kick you all the way back to stock so to speak.   Good luck whatever you do.

Some guys to talk to about this if you end up being interested would be Sachs, WFO Larry, Mega-Flow, and Bob Wright.

thanks for the reply some good info there, my old 95 incher has some pretty good numbers Jerry branch flowed my heads.  It's about 100 square horsepower to torque I've been pretty happy with it but when the wife says you can buy a new bike what the heck!

A Wood 777 set at 10.4 cr, along with headwork, has proven to be a very good set-up. :2vrolijk_21:
Lone Wolf Performance has shown 116 hp, 125 ft/lbs on their dyno, with that cam/our heads. :)

Thanks for the reply, but I plan on keeping the compression ratio stock because as I said pump gas is what I want to run on and it's my experience anything over 10 to 1 needs a little more octane.

The static compression, is not the concern, but rather the corrected compression ratio, as that is what the engine sees when the cam bleeds it off.
Set the school-bus 255 cam at 9.9 cr and it'll have uncontrollable spark knock, to the point of even engine damage.
Set an S&S .640 at 10.2, and you'll feel like you threw an anchor overboard, (and could damn near burn kerosene in it) with it's 60* intake closing number.
A correceted compression ratio, of 9.4, is generally a good safe area.

Scott, when you mentioned 10.4cr for the 777 cam is this static or corrected?

I assume your suggested 10.4cr with the 777 cam runs on pump gas (91 octane)?

When you shave the heads with stock pistons to you need to machine the pistons for additional valve clearance?

Totally pump gas compatable, tuned correctly.
No need to worry in regards to piston to valve clearence, with that material removed, and the TDC lift of that cam. :)
