Ventilator swap for Heavy Breather: breather screws needed?
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:19:54 PM »

Ordered a Heavy Breather for my 2010 FLHXSE and will be swapping out the stock Ventilator. My question is will I need to also purchase the breather screws (29465-08)? I understand from the install instructions these screws were OE equipted on 2008 and later Touring Models but were they used in the Ventilator application used on the CVO's?

Hoping someone here has made the switch and can let me know.

Any thoughts of selling your ventilator.

No need to buy new breather screws. The ventilator screws will work fine.

Thanks HD. I ended up ordering them anyway as they were cheap.

FLHR95 - yes I will be selling it. Sent you an e-mail.

I would always defer to hd-dude but:  In 2009, I installed the heavy breather on my SERG3. The directions (then) said to keep the "stock breather bolts."  Unfortunately, they were not referring to a stock Screamin' Eagle or CVO. I wound up spraying oil out the breether all over the freeway and my friends. Not very smart. Unless something has changed, yes you do need to change the bolts!

The breather bolts used by the factory for a 2010 FLHXSE with the Ventilator are listed in the parts book as P/N 29267-08.  The Heavy Breather Kit instructions call for using breather bolt P/N 29465-08.  It should measure 1.525" from the sealing flange to the end of the threaded portion.

Jerry

btw, 29465-08 is the part number used for standard air cleaners (not Ventilator) on late models.  If you install a Ventilator on a bike that came with a regular standard air cleaner, the 29267-08 bolts come with the Ventilator kit and must be used in place of the stock bolts.  In other words, the breather bolts used with the Ventilator are unique to that air cleaner.

You can use the stock bolts as long as you drill them straight through.
