Are there any differences between the 2010 and 2013 motors?

Different inner cam bearings and lifters.

If you had a new bike with under 20 miles on it could you put new pistons  in without machine work and install new cam without changing inner  cam bearings?

I did mine with 400 miles on it and didn't change any cam bearings. My mechanic said no reason to and it runs just fine. He said "if you want me to take your money I will but they are not needed"

Just my .02

When you say "new bike", what model and model year are you talking about?  If it's a 2013 CVO110 then you don't need to bother the inner cam bearings, they are already the upgraded SE bearings.  If you're talking about a regular engine or a 2012 or earlier CVO110, then yes it would be a good idea to change the bearings while you're in there.  When those bearings fail, and more than just a few have in recent years, odds are the entire engine will become junk.

As for the pistons, you won't know if you need machine work until you pull it down and inspect/measure the bores.  I definitely wouldn't throw it back together without checking them, even though your friendly dealers often do just that when installing big bore kits or high compression pistons.  Why take a chance that the piston to wall clearance is off or the bores are tapered, it's not that tough to do it right assuming you have access to torque plates and micrometers.

Yes.  The 2013 CVO's have the new SE lifters with improved roller bearings.  This has also been a trouble spot for previous 110's, along with the cam bearings.  Harley is awfully slow responding to issues, but it seems they have finally addressed the lifters and cam bearings after only six years.  What a swell bunch!

does it also make the lifter less noisy?
i have a 2011 cvo street glide and a 2013 cvo road glide. both engines sound totally different . i complained some times about the lifters on the 2011 sg but they told me everything is fine.
now that i got my rg i´m thinking about changing the bearings if that would help.
how much would the labour be for that?
thanks joern

Time will tell if the latest p/n 18572-13 SE lifters are a long term improvement or not.  In theory, the larger needle bearings in the lifters roller should be an improvement over the previous examples.  It's probably to soon to say.  I will say that I've not yet heard of any failures of these newest SE lifters...  Perhaps someone with a new '13 CVO can comment on whether or not they run quieter....

Time to change lifters and cam bearings, if you use adjustable pushrods - is probably 3 or 4 hours top.  Cost would depend on your local labor rates...

my 2013 rg sounds totally different . not that ticking and chatter-maybe a little bit ticking-but not as loud as my 2011 sg.
but i don´t know if they changed other parts, too.....

Give it time, it will tick. These lifters will not fix the noisy tick, tick, tick, tick. Probably will take a redesigned valvetrain/pushrod geometry to fix it completely. Just my thought on the subject.

When my Tech at the dealer was getting ready to install the SE Stage III Pro kit in the '09 SERG, I asked about "upgrading" to the SE lifters, he told me to, "stay away from them, they are made by Jims" although on his recommendation, we are upgrading the inner cam bearings.
The bores on the '09 looked brand new at a little less than 10k and the forged 10.5 / 1 pistons (from the kit) were tight and the Tech has to put the torque plates on and hone 'em

Actually, that's not true.  Your Tech is misinformed.  Years ago it was true - many years ago.   :nixweiss:
