13 King motor work
« on: March 08, 2013, 08:42:44 PM »

So is any one else going to do any motor work to their 13 CVO King?

With 2505 miles on the bike, with the help of a friend we took the top end down.  Sent the heads off to be ported and CC with the Harley 10.5:1 pistons to yield a 10.8:1 compression ratio.  Then the 50mm throttle body was sent to HPI so they could put the electrics on an 55mm HPI throttle body and an 58 mm intake.  Got some 5.3 gpm injectors instead of the stock 4.7 gpm.  Then we slid in a 259 E cam, some woods directional lifters and some SE adjustable push rods.  Some cometic gaskets.  Put on a Fullsac DX pipe with fullsac 2.25 cores in the stock mufflers.  Also added a TTS Master tune tuner.

We got it together Mid Feb and dumped the map from my friends 12 with the same build into the bike.  I have put easy miles on it with this build.  Runs smoother ands better than stock.  Riding it to FL for the last part of bike week, then over to see Doc and have it tuned to 100%.  Doc did the tune in the 12 whose map I am using.

I can't wait to really open it up.   :)

From the way this feels, I think it was worth the money.  I will know for sure after the tune by Doc.  It runs real strong.  My guess is over 100 torque from 2500 to 5000 rpm, the curve feels pretty wide and flat.  With a peak torque some where around 130 give or take a couple pounds.  My guess on HP is 123 or maybe a hair north of that.

It would not be worth the money on on my Road Glide as I usually trade them every 2 to 3 years when they hit 40K miles.  I figure this King I will have for many years, Like my ten year old fatboy.

The HP is pretty good, where I expected for SAE.  121.71  The torque is down a quite a bit on SAE from where we expected, by about 8.  It is 120.80, it comes on real strong and early but levels out and stays flat too soon.  We think it could be muffler volume as some of it.  So I will be removing the packing and getting the screens Steve at Fullsac is recommending.  It runs great and pulls like a freight train.  Very smooth and as you can see lots of torque everywhere, all they way up the rpm.  Over 100 by 2500 rpm and over 110 by 2750 and stays there through 5000 rpm.

Morning Dave.  Looks great, brother and I bet it runs like a scalded dawg.  Tell me, what did that do to your highway mileage.  Would be interesting to see the difference from stock which was 41.9 for me on my recent Oak Ridge to Orlando and back trip verses what you got with all these mods/tune.  Thanks.

Seems to not have changed my Milage.  42 to 43 mpg since the changes.  My wifes 2011 103 Street glide after 220 miles uses .2 to .4 more gallons of gas than me, every time before my mods and since my mods.

Roll on power is just great.  Rode my 12 Skunk which just has head pipe, mufflers and a tune right after getting home with the King on the FL trip.  Skunk felt low on power.  Really notice the power improvement rolling on the throttle coming out of a curve, or passing traffic.  At 70, roll on is just great!
