Feuling Cam Chest kit...
« on: March 16, 2013, 03:57:41 PM »

I am in the process of updating my '02 95" cam chest with a complete kit from Feuling. Heads are ported (Short Block Charlie) .070 off the face with 82cc chambers and about 10.2:1 compression with a .030 Cometic Head gasket.  Stock manifold and injectors with a high flow breather and a VH Pro Pipe.  Oh yeah pistons are 95" flat tops with valve reliefs.

I currently have Andrews 37B cams and the Feuling 543's are the most comparable.

My question is if I go to the 574's am I going to run into clearance problems and am I going to lose any low end...??

Thanks in advance.!!

Steve I moved your post/thread to our Twin Cam board since it is a technical question (post). The New Member Introduction board is for new members to introduce themselves. If you would like to start another thread in that board to introduce yourself feel free to do so.

You should really contact SB Charlie since he is the one who did your heads. He will know what cams will work better with what work he has done to the heads

Any time you do a CAM CHANGE you should clay the top end then disassemble and measure. I would never do a cam change in question with checking clearances. It is CHEAP INSURANCE. You also need to contact SB Charley and see what the spring height was set for (cam lift ). Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for all the feeback greatly appreciated..!!

The work SB Charlie did on my heads is amazing I would and have recommended him to many.  However the issue is he didn't send me the specs and white paper on my heads when I got them back. Unfortunately I am having a hell of a time getting him to answer the phone or call me back. Otherwise I wouldn't have had to post.  I was trying to avoid pulling the heads, but if I don't hear back from Charlie I'm going to have to yard them off and clay 'em..

Springs were not an issue when I did it the first time because the Andrews 37's are only .510 lift.  Granted these cams are only .043 higher, but the cams come in the kit and not returnable once installed in the bike.

The springs are beehive so height shouldn't matter..

I would think the heads are set up for at least 600 thou lift. Maybe more. You have small CC so if you are going to run a cam with any lift YOU MUST check piston to valve clearence. It doesn't matter what Joe Blow did or if his setup is the same. You always check with clay!!!

i would HOPE the heads were set up for TDC lift above the 37`s or the 574`s (both have very low TDC lifts)but i really dont understand why some porters dont supply flow charts & what heads are set up for(we do) and dont have a cam set & RPM range picked BEFORE any porting is done, doing it any other way (trying to match the cams to already ported heads is ass backwards,we port heads FOR the build, not the other way around :nixweiss:)

I tried the 574's and had nothing but bad luck with them. I hope you have better luck.  My bike started caveating and then would sump out a quart in after about 20 miles thought something else was going on but finally switched back to se 257 problem solved.  The guys at fueling were no help to me either.

The cam swap did not "solve" that sumping issue, but rather the pump was NOT sealed to the cases correctly, causing the oiling issue.

Of course, the sumping issue had nothing to do with the cams....rather an installation issue of the oil pump/o ring sealing.  Whoever did the work and diagnosed the problems probably needs a better understanding of cause/effect of basic oiling functions of a twin cam.  And, I've found the guys at Feuling to be nothing but professional and accomodating over the years...   :2vrolijk_21:
