Zumo problem
« on: March 16, 2013, 09:48:29 PM »

My Road Tech Zumo 660 is starting to do some strange things.  I am thinking it may be the unit itself but I wonder if any others are having similar problems.  Sometimes the route I am running just disappears and it is not because the roadway has changed.  These are well established roads and nothing new.  Today it drove me crazy for a couple hours.  Sometimes it 'pops' back in but usually I have to touch the screen to bring up another display and then return to the map display for it to correct.  Sometimes it happens again within a very short time or sometimes it goes for quite a while without mishap.  It is almost like it is not refreshing its image.  Here is a screen shot from this morning.

Maybe you have a corrupt operating system or map file....I just got thorough with calling Garmin and downloading the files and all is good now...worth a try.

....either that...or you are getting too close to the edge of the world

I can e-mail you the zip file and instructions that I used.

I have had that happen to me a few times when I was way out in no man's land and I never really thought twice about it until I read it here.  I remember having it happen to me just before winter hit and I suppose that it's something that will come up again as riding season starts here.  I guess I'll have to follow this thread to see if you come up with a solution.

How do you line up those metrics on the left side? On mine you have to pick 2 to go in each bottom corner..

I've had that also like when an new bypass has opened and Garmin's map is not updated to it.  Then the display does not show the road.  But this is different as you can see the current road and route and surrounding roads just are not there.

Go to Tools, Settings, Map and from Map Data Layout select More Data View.  Standard View is the default which gives you the two views in each bottom corner.  More Data View will give you the four views.

When I drive very fast on a back road sometimes the road goes away. It's like I'm just going too fast for the system I slow down and the road is back.

Don't drive faster than your electrons can fly.   :D

So Garmin has me use Web Updater to re-install the most current software version and then do a master reset of the unit.  Hopefully this will rectify the problem.  We'll see.   :nixweiss:
