Power duals or dresser duals?
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:13:09 AM »

I am looking to get pipes from V&H to go with my V&H high output slip ons that I got done on my birthday.

Now that it is spring again, the heat from the cat is starting to be annoying. I am trying to justify new pipes with the heat problem from the cat on burning up my right leg.

V&H recommends their Fuel Pack to go along with either of the two pipe choices , and they install them already set up for my baby.... but my parts guy at the shop says the Power Vision is much better for tuning.

I am not in it for the extra torque or whatever....Scarlett has plenty of power. I was thinking the Power Duals look cool, but the Dresser Duals also might work. I just want to be able to get it a louder rumble, the slip ons aren't enough. My DH's FXDB roars with his full set of big radius 2 into 2, and Scarlett sounds like a pussy cat next to him. Of course, if I get louder pipes, then the music won't be loud enough, and I'll slide down the slippery slope towards better amps, etc.

The nice thing about V&H is that at Laughlin I can get a 15% discount, and installation is about 50-75 bucks. At the HD shop, only 10% off and huge labor bill.

On another note, I was jazzed, getting about 254 miles to the tank on a recent road trip to San Diego. There were some fun twistys on the road we took between Riverside and Dana Point.

I have over 3600 miles, now, going to take her in for an oil change, I think. I am hoping that's included in my VIP extended maintenance plan.

Thanks for any thoughts!

If it's about helping the heat I had the Vance & Hines True Duels and my leg still burned up.
Go with a Fullsac Header http://www.fullsac.com/x-pipe.html it helped a lot with the heat.
I also put on one of the head cooling fans and it helped even more: http://www.wardspartswerks.com/

If you are looking for a deeper rumble than go with the Dresser Duals with the HO Slip ons, that will give you a deeper rumble and a nice snap when you hit the throttle.  I would also recommend the Power Vision of the PCV, that will take care of the heat issue.  It's a clean looking set up too :bananarock:

I would recommend either of the DynoJet products (Power Vision or Power Commander V) because either of thoe can be tuned without having to call the vendor.

I used the V & H Power Duals with the V & H Monster Ovals on my 2010 FLHTK and it was a nice sound and not overly loud.  I have Rush True Duals and Harley rebranded SuperTrapp slipons on my FLHXSE3 and it loud.  I also notice the heat from the rear cylinder exhaust pipe a lot.

Kilaani,

I have run the Dresser Dual / Hi Output setup for probably 6,000 miles. If I had not bought the Hi Outputs I will still be running the Dresser Duals today. Sorry to all you 2-1 guys but true duals sound like a Harley should sound. Having individual piston firing sound is Potato, Potato, Potato while 2-1's sound more like a V-8 engine sound. If you know what I mean.

Because that setup was too loud for my riding buddies I cut the cat out of my stocker header and that's what I've been running for about 15,000 miles. This setup replicates the sound of the Power Duals.

Do I like this sound? NO! But my friends don't complain anymore.

I have the V & H Dresser Duals if your interested. $100.00 plus shipping?

Almost forgot!

I really never noticed any performance differences although the Dresser Duals made the throttle seem more responsive.

I never "felt" and low end torque differences at all.

I just read a thread about MGS custom bikes true duals, went to their website, watched the video and was impressed.  I liked the looks of their true duals.  I've had Vance and Hines dresser duals and could never get them to tune correctly.  Some think that it is due to: not accurate placement of the O2 sensor bungs and I tend to agree.  The MGS duals runs the rear cylinder directly out the left side, which would definitely help the heat on your right leg.  Just food for thought.

Dresser/true duals are definitely going to give you that deep Rumble more so than power duals. My buddy and a couple other guys I know have the Fulsac but with stock mufflers with different size baffles and I can't hear them. Too quiet for me.

I went with the v&h power duals and monster rounds and I like the sound. Loud and deep enough sound but still enjoy the tunes. I also used the hd tuner and it crisped up the throttle.

Which would be the louder of the two (true duals or power duals) ? Or does it make any difference?

The dresser duals are less restrictive and are generally louder. I have them paired with the Vance and Hines Hi Output mufflers and they have a very deep tone.

 :cherry:

"Which would be the louder of the two (true duals or power duals) ? Or does it make any difference?"

When I first picked up my SE Ultra 110,  it was supposed to have the V&H Power Duals on it with Rinehart mufflers.   They made a mistake and had put the True Duals on it.   So for a couple of weeks,  I experienced the True Duals (which I do think look "cooler")........but they are waaaaaaay LOUD and my wife definitely did not like them because of that.  The bike had also been dynoed as the incorrect pipes went on at the same time as a "110 SE Race Kit" was being installed.

So,  fast forward two weeks later and the correct pipes (V&H Power Duals) have come in and the bike goes back in for the swap out of the pipes and gets re-dynoed again.   (As I recall,  3-5 HP and torque numbers with the Power Duals versus the True Duals)

The Power Duals are much quieter but still "bark" when you get on it.

So..........since you want more noise and don't care much about better torque,  it seems to me you need to opt for the True Dual setup :drink:

I have the Power Duals with the V&H Monster Rounds and a Power Commander.  Couldn't be happier with the low rumble sound (not annoying loud). Sounds good and can still hear the tunes.  I don't notice much if any engine heat at all.  This was definitly the right choice for me.
