For the vertically challenged.
« on: March 23, 2013, 01:58:52 AM »

I didn't go all through the threads of the last vertically challenged thread, but while at the dealer, to get my bike lowered, I was talking to a sales person who said that there is another way to lower the seat position. On the new frame, they can take out the mid section and replace it with another mid section that lowers the sitting position. It was originally for the Street Glide to give them a lower sleeker look, but it works on the ultras also. They have done a couple of them at that shop. Of course it is costly, around $1000.00. Just another idea though. Didn't know they could do that.

I think they may be referring to some of the "Drop Seat Kits". Here are a couple of those...

FBI Drop Seat Kit

Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit

Here is a thread showing a drop seat kit on a members '09 SERG - drop seat and helibars as requested.

I would be curious if there is a difference in tail sections between OEM HD's

I found this enlightening in the Bagger Werx product description:

"Note: If you have a 2010 thru 2013 CVO STREET GLIDE FLHX or CVO ROAD GLIDE ULTRA FLTR motorcycle, the Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit should not be installed as it will cause the rear tire to rub on the battery box which could lead to serious injury or death. These models are equipped with an 18”, high profile rear tire. We do not recommend doing so but possibly using a low-profile 18” rear tire such as Metzler or another brand rear tire may afford enough clearance to allow for installation of the Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit on these models. IMPORTANT: You should check the tire manufactures specifications and your Harley Davidson service department recommendations before ordering and installing a low profile tire on these models.

If you have a 2010 thru 2013 CVO STREET GLIDE FLHX or CVO ROAD GLIDE ULTRA FLTR equipped with adjustable rear shocks it will be necessary to replace them with Harley Davidson air shocks part #54565-09. This air shock has to be used to replace the FL CVO adjustable non-air shock when installing a Bagger Werx drop seat kit, before installing the Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit.

Bagger Werx highly recommends that the Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit be installed by a qualified Harley-Davidson technician. Note: If there has been any changes from the O.E.M. stock rear wheel , tire or shocks it is the responsibility of the installer to check all clearances when installing the Bagger Werx Drop Seat Kit (DSK)."

I think you may be right. The salesman said they had done a couple of the Ultras there, one on someone who worked there. He didn't mention if they had to change out the rear tire. he told me if the guy was working when I was around I'f have to check it out.

hep0950, I had a problem with this situation being only 5'9" on a good day. I have posted about this before. I had my stock seat sculpted by a local custom upholstery shop I had to leave the bike there with the seat on. Then when he removed the seat and  had it about where I told him I wanted it I went to the shop and sat  on it before he replaced the heater and leather cover. I told him to narrow the front section a little more, so he did that, put it all back together. Heater works fine Both feet flat on the ground. Charged me about $425. or maybe it was $450.00. Also upholsterer inserted gel pad which kind of forms itself to your butt. The passenger part of the seat was not worked on. Rode to Arkansas and back last summer with no issues. CAHDBIKER

I'm 5'9" on a good day with a 30" inseam, riding a 2013 Ultra CVO 110th. I've been riding Harleys for 47 years and always had them lowered. This one rides so darn well that I didn't want to mess up the geometry. I bought a lowered seat (going to send the stock one off and have it lowered) and had an extra 3/4" inch added to the sole and heel of my riding boots.....problem solved. I have to say this is the finest riding Harley my old behind has ever sat upon!

The Ultra Classic's don't have an 18" rear tire.

Do it for $1000?  Including painting the new side covers?  I don't think so.  More like $2000+ by the time all is said and done...at least.  Then if you ever sold the bike, the new owner might not be 5'XX, so they might not want a bike with one of those kits on it.

You can drop the bike 3.25" when needed, and get a better suspension in the process, by installing something like the Legend Air system for about $1600, give or take.  Having a 29" inseam, I speak from experience.

AMEN BROTHER!  5'6" here, too.... :2vrolijk_21:

I always wanted longer legs when I was a kid.  My dad said "how much longer would you want them?  They already reach from your butt to the ground".
