I haven't ever ridden with a kit installed, but here are my observation and experience so far. As a fellow short legger I went to J&P cycles open house, where FBI was set up with a demo of the 3 in drop kit installed on a few bikes. After sitting on the bikes it was very comfortable and seemed to put me into a riding position that I would really like to achieve. After further investigation, if figured out I'd have to replace my stock seat. Which wasn't a deal breaker at that time. Fast forward a few months, I found a reduced reach seat on Craigslist close to where I live so I purchased the seat. After changing the seat I found that it defiantly set me down closer to the ground and I had more control, but I gave up the suspension that was built into the hammock seat and the heat, which my wife loves. After riding and switching back and forth I ride with the stock seat and have a reach seat for sale. My concern is that you may give up some comfort going to the drop kit due to the change in the seat. I love the way it sits me into the bike I just don't think I'm willing to spend $3000 plus to not be happy.
Just my 2 cents
