I just installed a Belltronics STi-R Plus radar detector. It was like fitting 20 pounds of chit in a 5 pound bag. I started by mounting the controller under the speedo and tach. I'm going to vacuum form a cover for it this weekend so I won't have to worry about it getting wet. I located the display unit right under the the radio. Not concerned about it getting wet because I tucked it back far enough to where water shouldn't get in it. Under the display unit is LED light which is essential while riding during the day. It will definitely get your attention. I picked it up from
www.motorcycleradar.com. Below the LED light mounted to the fairing is a "Radar Screamer" also from motorcycleradar.com. I can easily hear the screamer while clipping along at 85 and listing to tunes. In the left glovebox is a toggle switch which can mute/high/lo the LED and Screamer. Just above the radio is a green/red led that came with the detector. Under the right glovebox lid I mounted the GPS receiver which works fine and does NOT require direct view of the sky. Also under the right glovebox is the USB outlet which is used to update the STi-R. I had to move the USB from the right side of the box to the forward most point of the glovebox due to contact with the fairing. The audible and voice speaker is placed in the fairing facing the speakers. You can't hear it when the bike is running but works great during setup. The rear laser shifter is mounted to the stock license plate holder. The radar detector and one of the two front laser shifters is mounted under the fairing. The second forward shifter is tucked away inside the fairing (hence the 20 pounds of chit in a 5 pound bag). The whole unit is powered through the ACC switch. The spaghetti wires going to the controller no longer looks like that. Everything was trimmed and wrapped. Hope you enjoy.
