I sent a PM's to a couple members on the forum that seem to have some insight into these type things as in internal HD type stuff (no, not Willie Gs pool guy).  Hope we can get some further clarification on what happend and why.

Dayne, the MoCo already got a reliable, water cooled motor in the v-rod.  Let's start a rumor....v-rod motor in a touring/softail/dyna frame..... :2vrolijk_21:

DOH!   I am totally down with that.....I would stand in line for a Softail with a Revo motor.....Softail with peak torque at 7000 rpm and a 9k redline using a proven, bulletproof motor.....you betcha :pineapple:

Subject: MY13 Softail CVO Breakout
Date: April 1, 2013

To: Affected Dealers in the Asia Pacific Region

An unforeseen issue with a Harley-Davidson paint supplier has resulted in supply disruption of MY13
Softail CVO Breakout units scheduled for production in April and May 2013. As a result of this disruption,
Harley-Davidson Motor Company has to cancel a proportion of the volume scheduled for production.
Your dealership may be impacted by this disruption.

What exactly is the problem? How many vehicles were impacted?

The external paint supplier Harley-Davidson uses to produce the paint sets for the Softail
Breakout CVO is currently at capacity and is unable to fulfill all dealer orders. About 360
vehicles were impacted across all global markets.

First and foremost we apologize for not being able to deliver the motorcycle that your customer wants.
Please wait for the MY14 CVO line up to be announced in August 2013 and order a MY14 CVO at that
time.

As an alternative, you may want to advise the customer to choose an alternate motorcycle that is
currently available and in inventory.

As usual, if you have questions, please address them through your local Harley-Davidson representative.

Was given a copy for the same email today when I asked about it.  The 360 bikes were the extra bikes given to dealer when they released the std breakout.

So if your order had been allocated a VIN prior to the extra bikes being issued then your bike will still be made.  I was told my VIN about a week after I ordered my bike.

So that would mean they were going to add another 360 to the original 1900 that were "scheduled" to be made I would assume.  They probably figured since they were going to release a production model, they could make a few more.  When I called Gunslinger to talk about helmet paint, the guy said that they are working at capacity and it was affecting other jobs....that it was taking to long to get other customers stuff out, so I guess I could see that.  I think that it takes 20 hours just to do a tank.....let alone the front and rear fenders.

I had somewhat of a similiar situation with the FLHTCUSE3 I purchased.
I committed to the purchase of the bike, told them to fax me an invoice.
Never got the fax,.....I called and was told the bike was sold.
I asked how that happened since I committed to it, at the close of that day.
I insisted they locate me another one........They reluctantly did, but to this day I think it was the same bike they had on the floor.
I think they were wanting to back out of the deal with my trade,......and never bothered to call me, I had to call them.

Needless to say, my next bike did not come from them.
We all have our war stories.

Ah, thanks RodRocket for the info

OK, that's the only thing I could thing of when I first heard about this, since Gunslinger is a small shop.  i was actually surprised that the MoCo used them when they have folks in York that have been doing CVO and SE paintwork for years....perhaps the Breakout paint is so different from past CVO processes the MoCo didn't have qualified folks to do it?

I'm glad to know that apparently, they didn't halt the CVO Breakout program due to some production or quality issue, just the extras they were hoping to make.  Obviously, the original 1900 sold well...although my dealer in Springfield, OH has had a red one on the floor since Mid-November....asking MSRP only....I can't believe that's possible...they are a small dealer in a small town through, so maybe that's it....

I'm sure we will see at least two more years of the CVO Breakout . . . but I doubt we will see anymore polished metal/clearcoat tanks and fenders.  Looking forward to seeing what colors the 2014 model year brings.
