Feedback on seat choice.
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:35:32 PM »

Hi there

Prior to owning my Street Glide I owned an 09 Electra Glide Ultra Classic and on long trips never experienced a sore or numb backside. I've ridden a couple of longer trips now on the Street Glide and I am getting a numb backside after 200+ k's. I love the look of the seat and my other half is reasonably comfortable on the stock pillion seat andd generally doesn't accompany me on long trips anyway.

So, what I'm looking for is a solo seat that's more comfortable than the stock seat on the CVO but looks good as well, if there is such a beast. I've looked at Corbin, C&C and what HD stock as replacements as well, but I'm really interested in what folks on here like or prefer. I'm 5'9" and weigh about 200lbs (90kgs).

Cheers and Happy Easter!

I went with the C&C solo, passenger pillion, rider backrest and I also had them make a sissy bar pad.  Quality, fit and looks are excellent.  Very good guys to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to do it that way all over again.  I had Corbin solos on my last two bikes.  Very good seat as well, but the customer service was very bad.  That would keep me from going in that direction again.

The thin, unsupportive stock '12 SESG seat is one of the very first things I got rid of! It looks good, but the padding is far too thin, and it doesn't accommodate a rider back rest. Others here have figured out ways to have a backrest put on it, and have the padding enhanced - but I elected to just replace it. I sold it and the sissy bar to someone on here.

I have two seats - a pretty Corbin DualTour seat with orange/silver flame stitching that I use when riding solo (bought it almost new here in the Marketplace for far less than new. It's the one in my sig pic), and a Mustang Wide Vintage Super Touring seat that I use when my wife or daughter rides BSR.

I like the Corbin better for me... I have ridden all day many times on it and have never gotten sore nor numb, and barely ever even need to move around on it. The rear seat is only about 8" wide though, hard, and slants forward - so it isn't very comfortable for the BSR. They both complained that the rear seat is not very comfortable, and they tend to slide forward on it.

I bought the Mustang seat because it's very comfortable for both me and the BSR. The front is very wide and supportive, and the rear is 11" wide, is nice and cushy, and slants slightly rearward so the BSR stays planted on it comfortably without sliding forward. It's comfortable for me, but not as comfortable as the Corbin for long rides. I have found that I can ride literally all day on the Corbin with no issues at all, whereas on the Mustang I will be squirming around and need breaks. The BSRs love the Mustang though!

The nice thing about both of these seats is that they have integrated rider back rests, so it's very easy to swap them since the rider backrests remain attached to the seats, and there's nothing that remains mounted to the bike for the rider backrest. Swapping them out takes only a couple of minutes.

Hi there
Thanks folks on the feedback. @ North Georgia Hawg: with the Corbin Dual Tour, is the backrest removeable easily and are there any modifications required for the seat to be installed? Is it simply easy on, easy off?

Cheers

Easy on and easy off.  Backrest is very easy to remove with a small Allen wrench for the set screw.

Hi there
I like the idea of the Air Hawk system under the seat. What model seat is yours? And is the backrest included, extra or aftermarket (not Danny Gray).

Cheers

It is a DG backrest. Cant remember what the model was called but it is their only solo seat for a bagger (I also got the passanger seat and Tour Pak backrest to match from them) that comes with a backrest. It has a pump and release built into the side of the seat for the AH system.

That really is a beautiful setup. Can you PM me the total cost for it? Love the backrest, matching tour pak backrest, and red flame stitching!

Corbin, best seat I've ever owned.  Buy it through HD-Dude on the site to make sure you get what you want.

Hi there

Thanks to all the folks that have offered suggestions. Problem I have is there are no dealers here in OZ that stock any of the seats from manufacturers mentions so it's a bit of a minefield making a decision. I need to do more research and try and track down some owners with either Danny Gray, Corbin or Mustang seats on their rides.

There'll be an enormous number of bikes this weekend at the HD 110th Anniversay celebrations in Melbourne so hopefully I'll get to see something that suits.

My feeling at the moment is the Danny Gray Big Seat Solo with backrest and AirHawk system but I'm not sure.

Cheers
