need thundermax tuner in Houston Texas
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:49:31 PM »

I was wondering if anybody knows a good person in Houston that knows the ins and outs of the thundermax tuner. I am changing my exhaust back to 2 into 2 from 2 into 1 and was looking for a shop that deals with a thundermax tuner. So far , the shops I have been to, have not had any knowledge of thundermax. The guy I had originally got the set up from is gone from where i purchased it from. Any help would be appreciated

I assume it is the non auto-tune version?

No, it's the auto tune version, but there are some tweaks you have to do like telling it what type of exhaust you have, ie. 2into2 etc.  plus you can go in and advance timing and stuff like that. A tuner who knows the software can really get it going good for what type of system you have.

I was under the impression that if you had a basemap that is really close, as your's should be, it would adapt to a simple exhaust change.  :nixweiss:

That might be the case if i were going from a 2 into 2  to a 2 into 2. But I am changing from 2 into 1 and they have a different base map for that. And plus I am changing to a vance and hines true dual headers with straight pipe and fishtails which I read has even a different map for that than standard 2 into 2. Plus as with most things, an experienced tuner with the thundermax can probably get more out of the motor than just letting the system do the standard. There is just not alot of bike shops that have tinkered with the thundermax here in houston

All this is true.  That has, though the years I've spent here, always been the case with Thundermax, IMO.  Less than adequate Customer Support.  Without Customer Support, which includes training good tuners all over the country to get things really started, makes things more difficult than need be.  Have you called Zippers to ask them?  Hope you get it resolved, one way or the other.

There is a shop in katy, tx. called TOP DEAD CENTER. I heard the guy (JOSH) that works there is a genius with any tuner. I called to ask them about my thundermax auto tuner and they were really helpful. I am currently looking for a shop around huffman, tx. to dyno my bike.

You have the best tuner on the market PERIOD!!!! But the one problem which makes it a less desirable tuner is not enough qualified trainers to train the people out in the field. Unlike most tuners out there on the market it tunes for every 260 RPM's I believe so it is more precise. I have a couple of them and one that is a very early model on my 04 SEEG. It was tuned by Zippers and has never missed a beat. The tune when first released was WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME! It is a shame that Zippers has not done more to train people. I know they have built up their base maps so that has been a BIG HELP!!!!

If you have the software on your laptop, uploading the correct base maps is a cinch. If you encounter problems you can interact live with a Zippers tech.  This feature on the Thundermax allows the tech to look at your tune while hooked up to your bike to get the most out of it.  I have done this twice...Hats off to Zippers for a killer product!

trouble is, I do not have a laptop, just home computer and Ipad. Maybe I could borrow one...but yeah, I could totally do it if I had one.

The first time I worked with the tmat, I too was laptop challenged. But a folding table and an extension cord made my desk top mobile. Where there is a will there is a way.

I guess so, but im probably challenged more than most. I live in a town house where my parking is far away. Im not sure if the neighbors would want me pulling up to the front door and letting loose with my pipes, we'll see LOL :D

We are located in Fort Worth and have extensive experience with the T max tuner. Have used it on both N/A engines as well as S/C engines with 15 psi of boost.
In house dyno / booth if you cannot get the issue handled let us know I am sure we can.
