Breakout draws attention, too bad it was the wrong kind.
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:03:39 PM »

Managed to come up on a Wyoming state trooper doing 82 in a 75. Gave me a warning since I was actually trying to outrun a rainstorm. Really didn't like my Texas plates. Supposed to get Wyoming tags if you are here working whether you are a resident or not.

Won't dispute what the trooper said to you (and glad you didn't get a ticket, BTW) but that makes absolutely no sense.  Even if you had a bike/car/truck registered in WY while you were working there (never heard that one before), you would still have the TX (or whatever state) drivers lic.  Also, what address would you give to register the ride?  Holiday Inn on Rt 3, room 114?
Just don't understand what is gained by that law....oh well.

How was the Breakout at 82 MPH?  Last softail I owned was a Teal, 1994 FXSTC.  I loved riding that Evo and in some ways, rode better than my next bike, '95 FLHTCU.  The softail was good at 78-85 vibration wise and seemed to enjoy that speed (good thing..... :2vrolijk_21: )

Its a good thing that they didn't get me the day before because it wasn't doing 82 that day it was doing 90. Wyoming has this stupid law that if you are up here to work that they require you to either get a temporary work sticker or actually register your vehicle. Just one more way that they make money off of us. They claim that since we are using and damaging their roads we should help pay for them.

I actually have an apartment up here and go home every four to six weeks, so I have the address to use. After 90 days working in this state you are considered to be a resident of Wyoming even if you are here temorarily. At 82 the Breakout is awesome, but its better at 95mph.

Must be a tax grab thing for WY.  Don't understand it but hey, most tax law isn't understandable so par for the course.

I hear ya, brother!

I had a similar experience in Arizona. I was doing some contract work for the state, and they ticketed me for having Texas plates. The law there sounds the same: If you are going to be in the State for more than 30 days, you are required to register your vehicle in the State. I ended up removing my front plate, and backed into my parking spot at work. Never did get it registered in AZ.

About to have the same problem with my truck. Just hauled ass from Casper, WY to Fort Worth, TX to buy a 3/4 ton truck.

I guess its a little different here... its not like you can travel beyond state lines (unless you own an amphicar)

Once its here you have to obtain local inspection, meet insurance requirements and transfer your registration to local plates. If your registration is good till next year it carries. You dont have to switch plates if ou get this huge, ugly out of state permit sticker (its about as big as a M/C plate).

Like anywhere else... the local LE dont care for signs of "out of staters"

Think you may find the WY vehicle registration law the same as most other states. The majority require the same thing UNLESS you are a full time student at one of their schools or a member of the US military stationed there.
