Experienced the right leg heat for myself
« on: April 10, 2013, 04:00:26 PM »

Yesterday was the first warm weather ride of any real length on the new CVO Ultra, and now I see why folks are posting about heat.  My right calf was hot even at highway speeds with my foot flat on the floor board.  I guess I need to evaluate the aftermarket "fixes" to tone down the heat a little...

Fullsac gets my vote!  X-pipe, baffles and TTS honestly helped on my '11 CVO Ultra and customer support is top notch  :2vrolijk_21:

You will still feel some heat from the engine and exhaust but nowhere near as much as the stock configuration.

It only took me one ride on my new Harley to cure me of my tradition of riding nude.

Burning the skin off of my right leg was the least of my worries.

Fullsac vote as well. I live in Las Vegas, nv and my 2010 runs cooler than my 2003 did, because of the Fullsac set up

Unless you're planning on racing your new bagger save yourself a couple hundred bucks and pull off your header, remove the heat shield, take a small grinding wheel and cut a (roughly 3" x 6") patch out where the two pipes come together. Then take a chisel and knock out the cat. Then take the header to a local shop and have them weld back in the patch. Probably $30 or $40!

Note! Cut the patch on the shield side. If not you'll see the patch from the reflection of the chrome tranny.

I hear a lot of good things here about Fulsac's baffles. Never ever heard one yet but on CVOHARLEY it's the talk of the town.

Removing the cat gets that scortching leg burn out of the way but keep in mind that these 110's are still pretty warm. I take my lowers off when it's above 60 outside.

Removing the cat and tuning help, but the 110 is a hot mother no matter what you do.  I had to remove lowers in the summer on a stock bike & carried a set of soft lowers in the saddlebag in case of inclement weather.  Doing the exhaust work made it less necessary.  I try to avoid heavy traffic and whenever possible my right foot is on the highway peg.

A tune makes a difference, replacing the factory headpipe makes a bigger difference.  I've used a TTS on other bikes; this one I decided to try a PowerVision.  The FuelMoto canned tune made a noticeable reduction in heat.  I've run their ceramic-coated 2:1:2 pipe before (and will again), and it further reduces heat.  But as mentioned, it's still a Harley, and it's still going to get hot.

I de catted the head pipe, installed a vied and just finished a 2100 mile ride the difference is well worth the time it took. The wife never complained once about the heat and I could ride with my foor on the floorboard or the highway peg without feeling the burn.

X4271 on the Fullsac X pipe as it does more than just dumping the cat. Cutting out the cat is a great way to go if budget is a problem. Will solve 90% of the heat issues.
