But who would care?
Im not sure I understand but Im assuming you mean that no one would care because its a Yamaha. The warrior is a good bike. I didn't buy it new so I know nothing about customer service at the dealer but It seems from listening to the forums that it couldnt be any worse than HD. Also going by what I learned on the Warrior forums people have zero trouble from the engines on these bikes. Im hearing all kinds of horror stories about these engines falling apart here. Hey, I like the breakout but for 30K I would expect that f$%*er to last forever.
Ever owned an BMW or Mercedes auto? They are finely crafted machines and are very expensive, too... both to buy and to maintain.
You want a metric, have at it. I've owned several in the past, and never dropped a dime into any of them other than for scheduled maintenance. Rode the piss out of 'em, too. My favorite was my 1985 Kawasaki Eliminator ZL900 that would do 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, and a sub-11 QM easily. I loved that bike and NOBODY ever beat me 0-100. I paid $3750 for it new, sold it 6 years later for $3000, and I wish I still had it. $125 a year for all the fun I had on it was a pretty darn cheap cost of ownership! I've attached a pic.
Of course, no one ever came up to any of my metrics wherever I parked and drooled all over it. Nearly every time I stop anywhere on the Honey Badger, someone comes up and looks at the bike and we strike up a conversation. I have a reputation in the group I ride with of being the social director for talking to people every time we stop anywhere. But I rarely initiate a conversation... people are simply drawn to the bike. Maybe I just like having my ego stroked by strangers - but that NEVER happened with any of my metrics. Harleys draw the eye of even non-motorcycle people because they are just so incredibly beautiful machines. And to this day, NO metric I've ever seen turns the eye like my SESG does.
My metrics never made me FEEL like I do when I ride my Harley, either. Hard to explain - but it's just a hell of a lot of FUN to ride a Harley. The big thumping old-school pushrod V-Twin engine really does stir my soul in a way that no modern ultra-smooth overhead-cam liquid-cooled shaft-drive blah blah blah metric can. And don't even get me started on those high-revving screaming engines of the crotch rockets... they sound to me like a bunch of angry bees, and they annoy the hell out of me.
I have about 13K on my SESG so far, and nothing has gone wrong. Of course, I've had the engine apart several times to upgrade components, but every time I've opened it up, everything looks good. No electronics issues either. Must've been built on a Wednesday! I do have some crank runout that I'll need to have corrected before too long... Probably take it apart next winter and send the low end off to Darkhorse for a bottom end rework. I could just let it run until it's awful, and then have it replaced under my ESP. I don't run that way, tho...
I think by reading these forums you hear a lot of gripes, but in the big picture a lot more people ride for tens of thousands of miles with little or no problems, and you never hear from the majority of them. Also, a lot of us here do a lot of things to our bikes to increase power, improve handling, increase reliabilty, etc... and we probably stress our bikes much more than a "normal" rider does... so things break.
But I've never wanted to be "normal" anyway... it's highly overrated...
