Trailer Toad
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:32:47 PM »

Was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with a Trailer Toad. I recently picked up a 36ft. Motor Home and am looking to upgrade my bike trailer to a 8ft x 18ft enclosed car trailer and was wondering if this is worth the expense....Thanks, Dave  :nervous:

Trailer Toad

I've looked at a lot of different towing options for a variety of trailers-tow vehicles.
Seems there are a lot of expensive problem solvers for perceived problems.

I've seen that before, pricey no doubt. And recently they added "really should have" options for new issues.

My first thought was - on the way back from Indiana picking up my toy hauler, I managed to do most of the trip going the opposite direction of what seemed like hundreds of motor homes, many with custom painted matching motorcycle trailers. None had any additional device. This was the week before Sturgis in 2009.

Watching the videos I see the toad scrubbing quite a bit when backing the trailer. Another video (going forward) has the axle turning slightly. With the turn video the toad does some kind of funky wobble right near the end.

It requires a weight distributing hitch, ever use one? You would probably need one anyway with out the Toad.

When backing you have to pin the Toad to keep it from pivoting and you should remove the WD hitch bars when backing to keep them from popping out.
And - one extra axle for tolls, mediocre quality of tires available. Many MH's I see frequently travel well in excess of 65 MPH. There are no 65+ rated 15" trailer tires that I know of.

Personally, I would make sure the MH has sufficient suspension and the proper hitch and give it a try before adding to the complexity.
