Another SERK windshield question
« on: September 26, 2006, 01:47:49 PM »

I have a black ice SERK arriving in December.  My previous experience with a detachable shield was on my current Fatboy.  It was a HD unit and lasted about two months because of unbelieveable buffetting.  Not a little air hitting you now and then - eyeball vibrating headache-inducing steady vibration starting at about 35mph.  With nothing to lose I cut the top down a couple inches and drilled holes with a hole saw near the bottom, neither of which helped.  So for the last eight years I've been in the wind, which isn't really that bad on most rides.

I'm wondering from those who recently got the new SERK, how does the sheild work at 55-80 mph?  I probably won't use it except for longer trips, but that's part of the reason for the new bike in the first place.  I don't expect the Corbin Tongue, or an Ultra, but not having to use it to scoop kitty litter would be nice.

Welcome Gecko...Get one of these with the curved top.  You'll never go back to a H-D windshield again.  http://www.clearviewshields.com/shop/product.php?id=22

Does that hook up to the detachable shield mounts like the '07 has?  I notice it says "OEM brackets", but can't tell if those are permanent mounts or not in the photo.

Spiderman, I would be interested in your windshield if you still have it after the fall Myrtle Beach rally.  I'm trying to save my extra funds until my vacation.  Could you PM me a picture if there is any damage or wear I should be concerned about?  I think the adjustment may be good for long trips.  I removed the short one that came on my serk as well.  I have the standard road king one from Harley.

I order a Clearview windshield for the CVO brackets. Clearview has the pattern for the seven screw bracket. So I purchased a 17" standsize RK replacement tinted with curved lip at top. It will fit CVO RK brackets. Don't forget to mention CVO member for 10% off.

I ordered a 17" gray tinted windshield from Rifle Windshields that will mount to the CVO 7 hole bracket as well (this is about 3" higher than the stock one).

Cee Baileys aircraft plastics offer all sizes that fit the road king. They are about twice as thick as stock and the optical clarity is excelent. I put on 2" taller and 2" wider. It doesn't shake like the stock. The site is www.ceebaileys.com

Thanks, I looked at their site, and the fact they make aircraft shields is a plus - being able to see through it would be nice!  I'll see just how bad the stock one is and swap it out if I can't live with it.  It will be December when it arrives, so any wind protection may seem like a godsend (Nebraska).

My combination of the Rifle Windshield (+ 3") and the HD Chrome deflectors works quite well.  Not really impressed with the look of the deflectors, but they will work until something else better comes along.  I bought just the windshield and used the existing frame work (7 bolt horizontal pattern).  If I was to do it again I might leave the stock windshield and framework together, and find a used (eBAy) stock HD windshield or purchase a complete new stock Road King setup from HD.  One drawback to the stock w/s frame is that w/s bags do not fit real good because of the 7 bolt pattern and the "lower" position of the SE bracket.  I like to use this accessory for glasses, keys, phone, etc.  By the way, I order all my stuff from Hales HD in Chicago - 20% off - great service and quick shipping.

Not crazy about the looks, but wonder if these windshields cut down the buffeting?

HDbrad03, I am considering ordering the same items and was wondering how tall you are and how you like the set-up.  Also please post pics if you have them.  Thanks!!!

Owenja I will post picture when I return from China. I'm about 5'10" and it works better than the HD Low Profile tinted RK windshield. Returning 12/2
