Over the last few months I have been detailing about every inch of the new bike getting ready for spring.  While I was doing the front rim I found that the factory installer put a three weight group on the radius of the rim so only the outer edges of the tape were contacting. I figured that I dodged a bullet by finding it and cleaned the tape off, applied new tape and put it on the rim's flat surface.

After reading how many people have lost weights and dented fenders I checked the back today and was surprised when very little outward pressure tool the black b&s weights right off the tape. The tape on the rim was fully in tact and the back of the weight was clean with no tape residue. I pealed the rest of the tape off the rim and re-applied using 3M VTB tape. It's a bit thinner than the factory tape but the weights feel solid.

Maybe bad tape is the cause of all the weights that are flying off the rims?
