Harley Davidson Heated Grip on Internal Wired Bar??
« on: April 22, 2013, 02:32:44 PM »

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone installed internal wired HD heated grips on bars yet?  I was told by a dealer that I would have to have the left hand grip side of the bar honed out to fit.  I know that with Heat Demons, this has to be done, but do you have to do this with the HD heated grips also?  Any information would help.

Thanks,

Glide Boy

Glideboy,

My wife bought me the matching HD heated hand grips for my 2011 SE SG.   I brought it into the dealer to ahve them do it.   They didnt mention any cutting or extra hoops they had to jump through but work work AWESOME and the connections were already in the bars.

Recently we purchased a 2013 SE RG for my wife.  In regards to the wife's bike they are telling me that the matching grips may not work on the bars on the bike, and yet they say they may would have to try to see although the HD parts book says no the dealer says some work some dont.   The did say if I wanted to put the GPS and the Grips I would most assuredly have to buy new bars for her.   Wish I had more, but haven't gotten that far yet with the install.    :nixweiss:

Duane,

Every once in a while we get lucky enough to ride outside the flat lands and when we do its nice to be prepared for the colder weather we aren't quite as used to.   Although over the last several years we have seen more than our fair share of really cold bikeweeks / biketoberfests.

I have run internally wired HD heated grips on a stock 08 Ultra, 09 CVO Road Glide with stock bars, and on that same Road Glide with the 12 monkey bars. All of them internally wire and only the monkey had to have anything done to them

I use Heat Demons on my 2012 Black Diamond SG. Dealer did not know they could be installed on Fly by wire bikes, I had to show the service manager the site and the instructions on how to mill out the right bar a little to make them fit.  They ordered the drill and mine work great, and since then have been doing fly by wire bikes left and right here in WA state.

Who has to start with get the damn thing dyno'd there is soo much more material available right now.   Such as so you have the trans out, the cam chest empty and cylinders and the heads and pistons out of the motor why not get it balanced and trued and pinned and welded and for a 100.00 more they will even put it back in for you.

Then there is could you buy some new heads the dealer screwed the pooch on the one they "fixed", or the can you get new barrels so we can get some pistons for you too.

Just not really sure where I would start if I were to bust your chops just a little.    Hell by the end of the summer you just yet might get to ride your bike :)   Back to you Duane  :huepfenlol2:  :huepfenlol2:  :huepfenlol2:   :huepfenlol2:  :huepfenlol2:

And dont forget before you can get it dyno'd are the bungs the right depth and in hte right spot  ::)   ::)

They come on the SE ultra. Your dealer can look up the parts for the ultra and use he same connections. Good luck.

I have the 2012 SE Street Glide and I tried that path, they use a different wiring harness for the Ultra then they do the Road Glide or the Street Glide so the connections are not there.

What did you need to do to the Monkey Bars for the HD Heated Grips to be internally wired?  I am putting 12" Monkey bars on a 2012 FLHTK and wondering if I can internally wire the heated grips that are on the bike already.

On my 13 SERK I had the dealer install 14" Monkey bars, and the internally wired heated grips from a 13 CVO Ultra.  While at it they also wired the GPS internally.  Dealer stated it took lots of time and persistence and finesse to get it done.

They just put Factory 47 14" bars on my 15 SERGU, all internally wired.  These bars are much like the monkey bars.
