Garmin reroutes uploaded maps
« on: April 24, 2013, 09:29:48 PM »

So I created a couple of maps using the HD Ride Planner. Loaded them up in the 660 and took off. Made sure I had my settings the way I wanted and the dang thing still wanted to route me the quickest way even though I have that turned off. Made sure the map loaded correctly and everything. Turned on avoidances to stay off the interstate, tolls roads, etc.

Any Ideas?

I've never found a way to do it just using the settings menu.  If I want to force a particular route I create a custom route in the software on my computer and place extra waypoints along my preferred route to force the Garmin to do it my way.

 :'( :'( :'(

The only way to control your own ride with the Garmin is to create a unique route on your computer (BTW, I use BaseCamp instead of MapSource. Much better product and is free from Garmin).  The install the route on the Garmin.

Works every time.

Agree with the others.  If you want it your way, then create a custom route on the computer and transfer that to your Garmin.  You can create a custom route directly on your GPS, but I find the computer much easier to design the route and transfer.  I use a Mac and with my Garmin 550 I had been using Garmin Road Trip.  That is no longer supported by Garmin, so with my 660, I moved over to Base Camp.  Several concerns about BaseCamp on the Zumo forums, but after planning several custom routes with BC, I'm liking it.  Just needed to get familiar with it.

I did use MoCo's ride planner on the computer and then uploaded them. Previewed it on the 660 and all is fine... just the 660 decides it doesn't want to follow it for some reason.

I've never had any luck using HD's ride planner for custom routes, so I gave up trying. I'll have to give Garmin Base Camp a try next time.

I used to use rideplanner and put in waypoints with no problem. Then one time it started not working. IDK if it was after an update or new map or what, but after troubleshooting with Garmin they advised me to try basecamp. I don't like it, but it works now  :nixweiss:

if you do not put in sufficient way points the darn thing will take you the quickest way...it will hit your way points but it will use the fastest route between them.  you have to carefully analyze your route and put enough way points into it so that it has to go your route between them...it is kind of a pia but when you get it right it works great.  i use hd ride planner.

Thanks, there's be a few others that said to do this. I tried it again last night for a ride today. Added about 4 way points so we'll see what happens.

I too use to use road trip.  I also am a MAC user.

I have tried Base Camp and it is a pain.  They really should have a user friendly software.

Figured I would try to use it to route my trip to PCB for the Thunder Beach Rally, but it is kicking my butt.

Same here, I learned that within a few days of installing my Zumo 660.
I store Custom Waypoints, just for those times I want to go a very specific route.

I also use Garmin baseCamp vs the HD Ride Planner.

Spent a few hours yesterday using Base Camp.  Starting to get the hang of it.  Still like Road Trip better, but its no longer supported.

I had to do something to make use of a very rainy day.  Got my Panama City Beach trip routed the way I want.  Also a couple rides while down there.
