42 seems to be a lot, because on the manual they give 15 to 17 ft/lbs!

17#`s,then 90* and you`ll end up right around 42#`s(we never did like the "90*" as the last torque and we put a number on it).if you do it the HD manual way,go back & check the torque values.good chance youll have 4 different ones.we use 42#`s as a final torque and havnt had a head gasket failure in over 20 years of using this method,if your torquing your heads to 17#`s and thats it,ill give you one heat cycle before you spit the gasket out

 :2vrolijk_21: I got it! Once again I misunderstood: I though you have to tight it at 42 then 90° more.  :-\

that would tight,like pulling studs out tight.back when the EVO`s first came out we tested torque on the "90* deal" and would come up with different torque values,but right in the 38-42 area,so we settled on 42.then came up with the 10,20,30 then 42 sequence and we`ve used it ever since(now we KNOW what our torque values are)
