Rear Brake Question '13 SEUC
« on: April 27, 2013, 09:29:42 PM »

Just getting used to my new bike but one of the first things I noticed is the pressure required on the rear brake pedal when using it alone for low speed maneuvers. My '07, non-ABS bike had a completely different feel and didn't require near as much pedal pressure. Is this common on the new ABS equipped models or do I have an issue?

I had an '06 Ultra without abs (obviously as it wasn't available then) and I actually noticed the opposite of what you describe when applying the brakes - front or rear - on my '11.5 CUSE6. The bike with the ABS seemed to me to take less effort at the rear pedal when performing slow speed stuff. I would have the bike checked out.

Many people have mentioned the same rear brake issue in the past couple years, and most have indicated that the rear brake improved after putting a lot of miles on the bike or making the effort to bed in the brakes.  It hasn't got anything to do with ABS/no ABS, it's the actual brake.  Do some searching on this site and you should find some threads where this has been discussed in some detail.

Less than 200 miles thus far. I'll keep an eye on it and try to bed them in properly to see if it improves, if not I'll have it checked out soon.

Jerry is probably right. But then given the MOCO track record of quality control they may have omitted the rear pads on assembly!

Took a few hundred until mine came around on my 12. Give it time and it will get better I think.

Take it back to the dealer they may need to bleed your brakes.

Same thing with mine. Never rode an ABS bike before. Just turned 600 miles and the rear brake feels just like my 07 without ABS felt. Keep puttin the miles on. It will get better.

I purchased mine in January and have had same feel with my bikes rear brakes. I have around 700 miles on the bike, plan to mention it to the dealer at the 1000 service.

I have the same bike 13 aniv CVO UC and it took 300 or so miles for them to feel normal.  Caught me off guard the first day I had to sit in traffic.

Get out in a large empty parking lot somewhere and do a few panic stops to seat the pads.  The added benefit will be you'll get a feel for how the ABS functions.

Funny, I was just going to open a new thread concerning this same topic.  I have the same issue with my 13.  If its not better by time I get my 1000 miles I will tell the dealer.

I have a 13 CVO Ultra and I had the same issue for the first few hundred miles, I have 3,500 on it now and they work great.  I would still let the dealership know, brakes are kind of important.   ;D
