Has anyone upgraded Zumo 660 to 665?
« on: April 28, 2013, 03:47:42 PM »

The dealership says that the 665 will simply plug in to the 660 without having to change anything.  Is the XM satellite antenna built in to the Zumo? Or is it part of the existing mount wiring for the 660? Or will I have to install an antenna as part of this process?

Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on how old your 660 mount is you might be able to use it with the 665. You will have to install the XM Radio puck inside the cowling. The puck is a separate piece.

I thought that would be the case.  Guess I get to see the inside of my fairing after all!

I'll be posting that process on the "Sena SM10 Bluetooth Transmitter for Harley" thread after it comes in tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick reply bissjim

I'm interested to hear where you are going to pick off the audio from your HK radio.  I d hope you are aware the plug in the front of the radio is a guzinta not a guzouta.

I'm working the project up as I go under the "Sena SM10 Bluetooth Transmitter for Harley" thread.

I really won't need the input port with all the bluetooth I'll be doing, provided it all works as advertised.

I'm only going to use the Harley radio for the CB, AM, FM, CD, and Weather channels.  I'll have a few more options as I progress, so I'll evaluate them and pick what works best for me as I go.

Excellent pic, thanks!

How hard is it to get in there?

Remove 3 screws from front fairing and pull out windshield (Red Dots). See picture 1
NOTE: To be safe...Put the middle screw back in place before removing the inner fairing screws. It will be easier to hold the outer fairing while removing this screw last. This will keep your outer fairing from falling on your fender when you remove the 4 inner screws (next step)and causing damage to either the fairing or fender.

Remove 2 screws (each side...4 total) from inner fairing. See pic 2

Pull outer fairing forward and disconnect headlight. Set outer fairing aside. See pic 3

I find is much easier to drop the running lights and you have less chance of scratching the fairing. I also remove the headlight before removing the fairing, easier for me anyway. Lots of people just cover the lights with old socks.

Reverse to assemble

Great info & pics.  Thanks again!
It looks like I'm picking up my Zumo 665 tomorrow.  They never seem to have the parts when it is convenient, but 1 day won't kill me. (just frustrated!)

I appreciate your efforts in clarifying this project for me.
