Gas Cap
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:38:44 PM »

Does anyone know of a locking gas cap that will fit under the pop-up, push button fuel door on a CVO Ultra? I ran a search but there were no recent listings! Would like to discourage someone from tampering either with gas-out or leaving something behind. Any ideas would be appreciated, Thank you!

You can change the push button to a lock for the cover.

I have always swapped the locking button for one that does not lock though, never been a problem.  Might just be my experience though.

You'd have a couple of options.  A locking gas cap itself to go beneath the fuel door.  This is one inexpensive option:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/147/24305/18922/PITEM/Bikers-Choice-Lockable-Gas-Cap-with-Cover-1999-Harley-Davidson-Electra-Glide---FLHT-Parts.aspx

Or, the lock to replace the push button in the fuel door itself is part number 61029-92A.  That lock will make it look like it's a keyed to match lock like the rest of the barrel key locks on the bike.  It'll actually work with about any barrel key.  Still a deterrent though.

I'm sure someone on here will give you a locking button.  There are I'm sure hundreds that have gone the other direction taking their locking off and putting push button on.  If I was a gas stealing thief, I'd be lookin at the truck with 30 gal., not something to worry about here in the rural Midwest.

Most of the homes in the area are never locked and probably never have been.  Most of the autos in the area will have the keys in the ignition.  But everyone has a gun beside the bed and one under the seat!

there was a time when we used to do that as well (not lock our doors) but not anymore!! thanks for the suggestions. Am i reading it wrong as some ppl have implied that the pop-up button on the CVO Ultra is lockable stock. Is that the case or did I miss something?

Some of the CVO models came with the lockable center button.  Most didn't.  If you want to make the change it's a simple swap and an inexpensive part (by Harley standards).

I'm assuming you are more worried about someone adding something versus someone syphoning a gallon or two.  These days, I wouldn't put it past some folks to dump crap in a bike fuel tank just because they don't like bikes or bikers.  Anyhow, IMHO, if you want to do it right then go with a real locking gas cap, not that joke Harley installed on the covers that any key will open.  BTW, you don't even need a real key, certain ball point pen barrels will do the trick.

I checked that link & could only get part # up to 2007.

i looked up some part numbers, the stock number for the 2007 se ultra is 61274-92.  the stock number for the gas cap for the 2012 se ultra is the same.  so it appears that the gas cap has been the same since 92.  so that locking gas cap for the 07 should fit yours as well.
