I have searched the forums here using multiple different keywords, so I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed.

Is there any way to add the security of having the FOB present before the switch to lock / unlock will be enabled? (Of course short of locking the fork lock switch every single time. This by the way, seems to have a way of sticking in the lock position more than once.)

The ability of anyone being able to put the ignition switch to run just long enough to hit the "unlock" on the switch then put the ignition back to off with hardly a security chirp, is a real lack of security for our "stuff". One can open the lids and do whatever easily without setting off the alarm.

I am looking through the wiring diagrams, to see if the power to the switch can be routed to something that is only "hot" with the FOB present using a relay or other means to not disrupt any TSSM systems.

Otherwise, I may just disconnect the power to this switch on the nacelle, and go back to old school using the key. Or the remote unlock key that came with the bike. I just hate carrying a pocket full of bigass plastic remotes.

Thanks!

Either toggle the power to the unlock side of the switch and hide toggle somewhere under nacelle, or just completely remove the unlock wire on the switch. You'll always have a key, and the keypad itself has the unlock button for automatic use. So far thats the only way to go.

I never have understood the desire for "power locks" on a motorcycle, but for those who think they really need this sort of thing the least Harley could have done would be to use a real fully integrated system and not the Mickey Mouse setup they offer.  Since Harley hasn't seen fit to do it right, if it were me I'd just disable the dash switch and unlock my bags and ignition the old fashioned and perfectly acceptable way, with the key.  It's not like most of us open and close all three "bags" every time we go for a ride.  Power locks are very useful on a car, where you have anywhere from two to five "doors" that need to be unlocked before anyone can gain access.  If they ever decide to add doors on a bike, then maybe power locks will make sense for bikes.

I agree completely! I "ASSUMED" that the locks only worked when the FOB was present. I honestly had no idea that the switch would unlock by simply turning ignition. I tried it this weekend at home, placing the FOB out of signal strength, and was amazed at how easy it would be to unlock, remove contents from the tour pack and run.

I am no electrical engineer, but it appears that the electrical drawings should show where the wireless brain is and what it shakes hands with once it's happy that the FOB is there. When that is figured out, it should be an easy solution. There has GOT to be a circuit that will only be live with the FOB present.

IF not, I will just disconnect it.

A real shame to have this upgrade feature but essentially make it worthless by design.

with the power lock option, can you not still manually lock with the key?

i guess the other thought would be if you were 'security conscious' enough to lock the bags and tourpak, why wouldn't you lock the forks?

You can lock/unlock everything with the key OR IF you turn the ignition to the lock position and THEN lock via the key buttons, it ALL locks.  If you leave the switch in the unlocked position, you haven't really accomplished Chit, as all they have to do is turn the ignition on and unlock via the switch on the lower inner.  It is useless to go anything else.

The switch, when locked via the key fob, often "feels" odd.  Just be gentle with it and all will be fine....it's like a fine lady.

I think the option to lock the tour pack and saddle bag lids without locking the switch was just for the purpose of doing so while riding. The reason why the dash switch will not lock the forks. I think it is more for ease of mind locking the tour pack and saddle bags so you don't have to worry about them coming open while riding.

Locking the tour pack and saddle bags while leaving the ignition unlocked is like locking a trunk on a car and leaving the doors open. You can still open the trunk.

I love the automatic locking saddle bags & ignition switch! :2vrolijk_21:

How many other mfg. bikes even have this feature?  I reviewed the BMW K1600 saddlebag central locking, which can also be engaged from a switch on the handlebar as well as fob. :nixweiss:

If you want to lock the ignition and all you bags at once you can, or you can lock all your bags and not lock the forks.

Would you rather not have that option?  If so, use the key!

I also love the automatic locking saddlebags & ignition switch!
It may not be the best habit I have of not locking the forks everytime I park and run in to the store, but with the alarm system I should not have to lock my forks everytime, especially considering the issues HD seems to be having with the fork lock. I have had issues with mine off and on, no matter how carefully I use it. There are several posts in this forum about guys gettin' stranded.
Regardless, I just want the piece of mind of knowing I can park, and go shop or whatever and not worry about my bags getting opened.  :skull: Hell, I can't possibly be the only one that feels this way. Paid way too much money to have to deal with this feature I can't comfortably use without locking the forks every time.

My first post was just to ask if anyone has come up with a way to use a different power circuit to feed the lock / unlock switch that will have power only with the blessing of the FOB present.

Thanks for your input.  :vrolijk_4:

There are many threads on here that comment on the Fork Lock getting stuck...  the primary cause was using the key to manually lock the ignition switch while also using the remote to lock everything.

Suggestions were made to use one or the other, but not both.  Locking the ignition switch with the key and then with the remote messes with the mechanism and things pop out of place... causing the switch to get stuck.

I always use the remote to lock and unlock... making sure to unlock everything prior to locking anything.  A little wiggle of the ignition switch (in the off position) while pressing the unlock on the remote seems to help set things in proper alignment.  Once the ignition switch is turned to Fork Lock and the physical check is good... I press the remote to lock and walk away.

I do recommend checking inside your rear fenders frequently... as the wiring harness to my leftside saddlebag must have got a little too close to the tire at some point and it was torn apart... until I get the wiring fixed, I manually lock the left saddle bag.  Nice to have both options.   8)

Hey, I take no offense to your sarcasm, that's what forums are for, expressing opinions as we both have, and we both agree we love the automatic locking saddlebag & ignition system.

By the way, my bags were stolen with my alarm system fully engaged, (including bags locks) so I recognize the fork lock and alarm system is not infallible.  There isn't a sensitivity setting, for example on the alarm system, so I added the Xena 15 fork lock which is very sensitive.  I have also upgraded to the Alarm system II which I believe should have come with a CVO, so I do understand your frustration with the limited funtionality.  Moco has come a long way in improvements.

Thank you for your input about the ignition lock!
I appreciate it.
My "TO DO" list is to ride from here in Oklahoma to your location! I have read and watched the Alaskapade trip the guy in Dallas has done. I really want to do that someday!
The first motorcycle ride my wife and I took was on a rented Harley in Ketchican Alaska!
Coolest thing in the world was a bald eagle pacing us right over our heads as we were winding through the hills!!!

Kingspoke,
Sorry to hear about your bags. Reminds me that I need to install my screws in place of one of the latches on each side. May deter the ease of popping them off.

Somehow this will get figured out without too much ado. Got to find the simple solution (to make it work)

Thanks again! :freak:
