Cycle Pedic Seat Reviews or ???
« on: May 07, 2013, 07:33:34 AM »

I know this has bee around before; but after reading around I really can't find a whole lot of info from folks that have one and ride it or have ridden it for a while; so thats what I'm looking for, so good first hand information.

My stock seat on the New 13 is the Heated Hammock seat..and I'm sorry to say it is uncomfortable, don't get me wrong I like the heat in the winter and my SO is pretty comfy but; it seems to make me numb in my sit bones and even worse cut the blood flow in an area forward of there that we'll just not talk about on this family forum. But you get the idea..My 103's seat was better, not great but really never affected me the way this one does. So I've got to do something to fix this, cause I can't ride more than a hundred miles with out feeling like i'm going to jeopardize my family heritage.

So if anyone has got firsthand info on the Cycle Pedic Seat or something else that might help I'd love to hear about it.Anyone else have this issue with the 13 seat on the UC
What i'm looking for is a seat thats a little wider in the back; more padding under the cheeks a little narrower in the front and does not bunch up in the middle by the horn (so to speak)..

Really!! No one has explored this change? I'm surprised. Well I have requested information from Rush, but haven't heard anything back from them either..So we'll see. If I can try and find one to try that would be the best, so I'm a looking.

I bought a Danny Gray seat from Dennis Kirk. I picked it up at my US shipping place in NY. I went on a 3 day ride in NY and PA, and decided I didnt like it. I returned it, and got my refund.

Point being Dennis Kirk is great with returns and usually have the best prices on seats, so it may be an option to order from them and return it if you dont like it.

Have you tried a hammock seat minus the heaters?   In my case I went with the Mustang Seat no heat and it is much better and even adds a bit of support.  Might give them a call to see if they have a try/buy or something.

Have you considered the Air Hawk Cruiser R cushion?  Similar principle, fits the shape of the seat perfectly, and is not a permanent seat replacement.

I personally refuse to use any add on pad/sheepskin on an aftermarket seat I've spent hundreds of dollars on. If the seat doesn't work, try something else. Maybe that's just me.

I think he was saying using the Airhawk w/the stock seat vs. replacing the seat. :nixweiss:

Exactly.  The Airhawk cushion does not have to be attached to the seat.  Put it on, ride, park, pick it up and throw it in a saddlebag or the TP.  A person looking at you on the bike from the side would never know you're sitting on the Airhawk Cruiser R.  It has a sticky rubber bottom on the cover so it won't move around once you're on the bike.  You CAN fasten it to the seat, but it is not necessary at all.  It's a $140 purchase vs a lot more for any new seat you buy.  And it works.

I've tried a sheepskin I got from IKEA and it helped in the hot weather, but I'm not looking to raise myself up any more, which I would with an AirHawk or something like it..
Still looking for a dealer for the Rush Cycle Pedic and think I will try that first. I was looking at Mustangs  or Corbin... argghhh, I hate this part.! and I know that as soon as I get a seat that fits; handlebars will then be next on the list...Think I better start selling my 2 sets of slip ons that are sitting on the shelf!!!!

The Air Hawk seat won't raise you up more than aboout 1/4 inch if you have it aired up properly. I got mine in Sturgis in 09 and have about 45,000 miles on it and I won't waste my money on a seat. You have hundreds of seat positions with it, all you do is move it slightly and all the little air bubbles are resting in on a different part of your bottom.

I agree with the air hawk medium cruiser. I removed the straps and just throw it down for any ride over 100 miles.  I had numbness as described before I got it. It sure beats replacing the whole seat with something that may or may not correct the problem.

I purchased the Airhawk "R" cushion seat pad prior to our 5500 mile trip west last fall.  I'm a huge fan!  Never once had saddle sore butt...  Dropped it into the tour pak when not riding.  It's a keeper!   :2vrolijk_21:

Well I ordered a Cycle Pedic should be here the end of the week so we'll see!!! I am also considering the Mustang Super Tour with backrest.. I have found one I might be able to try for a couple of days, so I'll compare the 2..
If I'm to keep it on Yr round I'll need the heated seat option, on the stock seat it was sooo nice on those cold and chilly winter rides..my better half says it's a must..

Hey, Flyguy!

I was looking at the Cyclepedic myself pretty seriously as my SO has a problem coccyx - broke her tailbone at 16 and the nuns at the catholic boarding school refused to let her see a doc. So it set very badly, now at age 54, she can't sit a bike with a normal saddle for more than about 20 mins without being badly hurt. Has put a dampener on my touring for quite some time. I work away from home for long periods, so when I do get home I like to get some very long trips in. her tender butt has meant I either go it alone, or I dont go.

Anyway I had some really good comms with the owners at Rush, but my enthusiasm died when they told me that they had decided not to go with the heated option. I begged and I pleaded, cos the heated seats in our TDI helped momma's butt no end, but they wouldn't budge. I even offered to pay double for the prototype, and they refused. So I have been waiting to hear some good reviews, and if the seat is as good as I think it will be, it might be worth buying one, and having a local guy fit some heat demons into it.
So, I for one am really looking forward to hearing what you think of the seat when it comes.

On the other hand my SO has found the standard seat that came with my FLHTCUSE5 as the most comfortable yet, and we have been on a number of rides which have been in the region of 100 miles, and no complaints! Just applause for moving up to a CVO! Won't ever go back, now that Momma is happy - and no arguments about the price, yay!

I just have to find a way that more chrome increases the comfort factor ;)

I have the George Anderson relocator ordered so that next time I go home, it will be on the bike. I have also ordered my lady a nice Canon camera as a surprise - to keep her busy out back on those long rides. I was getting fed up with trying to get decent pics off the helmet cam.

Any other (clean) suggestions on how to keep my good lady comfy on the back are welcome!

Cheers,

Peggers
