Passenger Handrails
« on: September 29, 2006, 08:40:37 PM »

After almost tossing my wife from the bike, when we hit a few drops on the highway, which scared the chit out of her. I decided to get the HD passenger handrails (HD part # 91583-99) with the hand grip covers ( HD part # 91668-05) so she had a better hold of the bike. But with the Mustang Solo with backrest seat, the factory seat stud plate does not have studs long enough for the seat mounts, fender bib, and Handrails. I do not want to loss my fender bib either.
So after talking to the dealer which said the Road King plate would resolve this issue, I took the bike in for the plate to be changed along with a few other items to do. Come to find out the RK plate was even shorter.
So besides me making a plate this winter with longer studs by a good 1/4"- Anyone have the hand rails and if so any info you can toss me would be appreciated.
Thanks

I too purchased the set but haven't installed them yet.  I have the '05 SEEG with the Harley EG heated seat replacing the stock seat.  Will it fit while leaving stock backrest attached?   I still use the backrest, it gives me the necessary lower back support===urgently needed for someone with over 8000 hours of flight time in large bombers.... A couple of pics with the seat and rails (placed) on my bike. I have to get a Seat stud plate, and remove the studs from it and have longer studs welded on to the plate, change out the OEM plate and Handrails are a done deal..

Do you have to do all this because its not a HD seat? I was thinking of adding those but dont want to go through all that?! [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

If you Have an HD seat that is secured to that plate and then adding the handrail, I would think that it would fit okay. But with so many different seat options, I couldn't say for sure. If it has a backrest- is the backrest built into the seat/or to the bike
Is the seat a one piece that is only secured by the rear thumb screw [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I didn't even know these things existed...

So let me get this straight - with the stock ('05 SEEG) backrest mount, is there enough length on the captive screws to hold the passenger handrail? (Which I have from a previous ride...)

If not, I guess some form of joining piece will be required ( Prob hex section threaded through with the correct pitch and size??) so I can bolt down into it

Does that make sense?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] - It's kinda late over here

Cheers

You've probably already thought of it, but in case you haven't.......another option, for making your wife feel (and be) a little more secure back there would be the wrap around backrest for the passenger.

I had it when I had the HD Comfort Stitch seat (the one that came stock on an 06 Ultra Classic) and I also have one that Corbin makes, to go with my Corbin seat.

Everyone has surely seen the wrap around full sized backrests a time or three.  JC's image will give her something to consider in profile  Here's a side by side from above for a direct comparison also.

JCZ,
I had looked into the wrap-around passenger backrest for her, and it is an excellent option. But I have the tourpac off a lot, and want to have something that for the most part will still be on the bike. Even the handrails can be quickly removed when I want to take it down to a solo ride.
Plus these are a much less expense than the tourpac wrap- around.
Thanks for the suggestion [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

MYCVO, until you get it figured out can't you put the passenger grab strap that came w/ the bike back on.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Fast, cheap and easy fix for now.
