IPB Change out
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:13:02 PM »

2007 FLHTCUSE2  changing my IPB and clutch pack will not slid off the shaft! Any solutions? Do I need to pull the clutch apart and get a puller? Or is there a easier way?
Thanks Kent

You need to slightly disassemble the clutch assembly...

Remove the internal retaining ring that retains the release plate and pushrod actuator shaft.  Then remove the (left hand thread) mainshaft nut (1 3/16 socket, I believe).  Remove the diaphram spring.  Now your clutch pak should slide off...

The service manual describes it well - or even the pictures in the parts manual...

Sorry I guess I should of mentioned that was already done! I put a small pry bar behind the ring gear but it won't budge.

That's not good... :nervous:

I wonder if you have damaged splines...  It's not uncommon.  Pull all the plates and spacers out.

Then, if you have a properly sized puller, use it.  If not, pry away....

You may have to pull the clutch pak out for the puller to work, but you shouldn't have to remove them in order to remove the clutch from the mainshaft...

Sometimes a big hammer is your most valuable tool (but not often :o).  Glad you got it apart....

I purchased a new 2007 EGC and the first two years I owned it almost to the day, the IPB had to be replaced.
I don't know what it was with the 07's but IPG's weren't very reliable in some of them.
My buddy bought an 07 EGC several months before I did and he never had a problem at all with his.
I hope you have better luck than me.
