iPod problem - Solved
« on: May 19, 2013, 12:36:27 PM »

On my '12 CUSE7 I discovered that I have only left channel audio coming from my iPod.  This was verified by connecting another iPod and my iPhone with the same result - only left channel audio.  I tested using helmet headset speakers and speakers on the bike itself.  All other audio functions have output in both channels so it is definitely in the iPod circuitry.

I assume  :nixweiss: that inside the fairing where the iPod module is located that it has an audio input that the iPod cable plugs in to.  If it were not fully seated could this cause only left channel audio output?  :confused5:

Might be a bad cable from the iPod to the iPod module. Might be a bad connection from the iPod module to the connector on the back of t he radio. Might also be a bad iPod module.

Could easily be one of the pins not seated.  I had a similar problem with mine when I installed it, only one channel output.  I reseated the pins and it started working fine.

Sometimes you luck out.   ;D  Took off outer fairing, unplugged the connection to the iPod module and plugged it back it.  Now all is well.  Still a pia to r/r the outer fairing but easier than driving to dealer and waiting several hours to discover it was something that simple.  Don't know why after 18 mos / 18k miles it should suddenly decide to not make good contact.   :confused5:

Glad you found an easy fix. Hope you put a dab of dielectric grease on the connector. May have developed a bit of corrosion that caused the problem.

It is a good idea to put a little dielectric grease on any connector you take apart, any connector you see and even the connectors you do not see. Moisture has a way of seeping into every dark room and connectors. A little di grease will save you a bunch of head aches down the road.
