Wow Fisheye, that looks great !  Probably not the easiest conversion you could do, but looks like your efforts truly paid off !  Like having a new
bike all over again !   8)

Ahh yes - the Sharknose vs. Batwing decision! I ride a '12 CVO SG, so maybe that says what I think. Or maybe not...

When I bought the Honey Badger on Aug 26, 2011, I had actually been looking for a '12 Maple Metallic CVO RG, but no one in GA had one for sale at the time. I was interested in the Maple Metallic CVO RG because it looked the best on the H-D website. I came to realize that the H-D website is the absolute WORST place to look at paint colors. On the site, all of the bright colors look much darker and far less appealing than they do in person. I think its the way they do the highly-diffused lighting to avoid any reflection or glare in the pictures - but it really dulls down all of the colors. I thought the '12 CVO RG skunk bike looked just plain ugly on the site - but when in saw my first on in person I was stunned by the beauty of the pearl white and that beautiful black they used. It's absolutely gorgeous!

I had also looked at an '11 CVO RGU in Rio Red, but someone else bought that before I made a decision on it. I found my bike down in Macon at H-D of Macon, and bought it immediately for MSRP, no setup fee, and a $250 doc fee... not because it was a CVO SG vs. a CVO RG - but because I just fell in love with the paint job with the "phantom flames" the minute I saw it. I love bright colors, and orange is my absolute favorite color for a CVO.

I had also been interested in a '09 CVO RG in the orange over black - but I couldn't find one of those anywhere at the time either. If I had found one, that's what I would be riding now! It's my favorite CVO ever, in a tie with my bike!

I think things have a way of working out the way they should, and I have never looked back nor have I had any regrets since buying the Honey Badger. I am thoroughly in love with it, and I cannot foresee ever selling it. I will almost certainly ride it for the rest of my riding days.  It's the perfect bike for me. It handles like a dream... rock solid at all speeds up beyond 120 with absolutely no buffeting  - even when passing a semi going the opposite direction on a two-lane road.

In the end, buy what really moves your soul. It's your money and the bike will be yours to love riding. It really doesn't matter at all what anyone else thinks. If we all thought the same, the world would be a pretty boring place... and everyone would probably be riding black Ultras! Except me...  :2vrolijk_21:

Ken

Ken   I'm jealous ... thats the SG I tried to find, but no avail.  LOL  The color and paint just drew me in immediately.  But I haven't really seen a CVO SG or RG over the last 4 years that I didn't like ..... I think the SG' and RG's have faired better on Harley's choices of the tin colors.  You are correct... the HD site is a horrible place to actually see what the colors look like.... its called Photoshop; saturate the color, crank the exposure and contrast; and you end up with something that does not remotely resemble the paint in the sun.  Kinda weird thinking if I found one now, would I trade the CVO RG if it was a straight across deal ..... probably not.  Funny how sometimes the bike picks you, and mine definitely picked me. I just need one of each !  Beautiful bike !

Congrats on the new bike!  Post some pictures!   :orange:  And welcome to the Shark Tank!

It's a tough decision, that is for sure.  I agree with the others that neither motorcycle is a bad one to own.  But, of course we don't always love the same things.

I bought a 2010 CVO SG in Sept 2009.  I was pulled in the moment the brought it to the floor, while I was looking at regular SGs.

From there, it's been a fun ride, literally and figuratively.

This past fall in 2012, I rode a RGU at a demo day.  Already pulled in by the looks of a RG, I was struck by how well the fixed fairing handled, and how much better it felt, to me.

So, I began to weigh my options, and decided a conversion, if done right, would be the best fit.

LOL  Nah, no worries.  Its interesting someone took the time to do the conversion ..... and the "whys."   Kinda throws some more credibility on the RG case.

Fisheye,

I'm curious how long it took you to warm up to the RG ?   Few miles down the highway ?   It was instant for me; not even out of the parking lot.

I have been around the H-D world for a long time and even back to the old Tour Glide days the following for the fixed fairing has been the most loyal that I have seen.  I have owned the bat wing for a long time but when I first saw a skunk in Aug 2011 I was hooked.

I was a bit hesitant to the radio being wwaaayyy out there but as soon as I had my new RG on the open road I new I made the right choice. I have had both and love both but the RG is something you have to try before you can decide. :2vrolijk_21:

I know when I saw the 2009 yellow SERG it was love at first sight.  I was only a matter of time before I found one and bought it.

The look just sort of happened.  I never even considered it in 2010, and eventually, I just really liked the look.  Enter the 2012 FLTRXSE, and I was really sold.

As for the ride, I knew immediately!  There was just no comparing the two.  Same bike from the neck back, but the fairing differences extend far beyond looks.  And the feeling you get when you know you have the right bike is a great one too.

This has been a fun topic to follow.  We all have our reasons for going SG or RG....anywhere from ride/handling to color choices (or lack there of) is what drove us to our respective rides.  Me?  I never considered the RG.  I've put about 100 miles on one and will say it's a great bike with great handling and some absolutely wonderful color schemes (Ken, you are right on that Skunk....looks like crap in the pictures and a million bucks in the sunshine) but that "gut feeling" always takes me to the the bat wing bikes.  Best way to describe it for me....it feels like home when I'm riding it.

JPR, glad for you that your "home" is your new SERG.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks Haird !   You are correct.... Its all a salad bar out there; you take what you want and leave the rest.  There is no right or wrong answer.   Life would be boring if we were all the same !

Interesting read for sure. I had a 09 O/B SERG. Loved the ride and how it cut thru the wind effortlessly. Fairing was a little far but that's ok. I got the itch in 12 and saw the Ruby Red SESG. Loved the color and look. So took the plunge. 3k miles later, I still love it. I find I can carve the curves easier on it.  Feels smaller. I realize that it is me that has the problem. There is some more wind but not a huge deal, but its there. When the new SERGs come back out...well who knows. Until then ride safe and ride often.

That '12 SESG in the red is drop dead gorgeous ! ..... and I don't think you have a problem at all.  I have talked with a lot of people, and have
ridden one of my best buddie's SG quite a few times and like it.  Its just one of those subjective things, that has a lot of little variables that
influence our decisions.  We ride what we fee comfortable on; some may sit taller on a bike, or have longer arms ..... or even our riding habits may be a little different and how we interact with the bike.  Little things become big things in regard to what we all feel comfortable with, and you go with what feels right to you.  In the end, we are all on the same side ..... and own those air-cooled V-twins for the same reason.   :)

I have had each of all the touring models and for me the Road Glide is my favorite because the way it handles.  If I want super comfort for a real long distance trip or i am riding two up I prefer the Ultra.  My last road glide i tried to put all the things that make a Ultra comfy and I got close, but just not as comfy or me.  Can't go wrong either way and if I had to choose one for my last bike ever it would be Road Glide.
