brake line lenght
« on: May 20, 2013, 01:38:07 PM »

I put new bars on my bike this weekend KST brand. They are 10 3/4 high and look kind of like the Yaffe style. Everything works fine but the Clutch line is too short. What lenght do I need. I'm thinking 65 inches. The Harley dealer in my area doesn't even know the lenght of the standard line so I can order properly. I think 4 ~ 6 inches would work just fine.

Any ideas on the length? I will send pictures when I'm completed.

How much longer are the bars than your older bars?  I would measure the length u
Of your old line add the extra length of your new bars.  And might add a inch or two for adjustability.  The extra would be up to you.  I am sure you can hide the little extra in the fairing.

I will have to take it off tonight and measure. I was just upset that Harley didn't know the length of the stock one and just get me one a few inches longer. The stock bars are around 6 inches high and these are 10 3/4 and about 3 inches wider on each side.
Harley dealer said the cluch line is actually a brake line with the same fittings. Not sure if he knows what he's talking about. That's why I wanted to check here. There are more knowlegable folks here than at any dealership I have ever been to.

I can tell you the stock brake line lenght is 65 inches. The One Harley ordered was 65 inches. They told me the stock lenght was 62 inches but that isn't correct. I changed the cable rout to go on the left side of the fork frame, then go to the right side of the frame down tube. This works great and I still used my stock brake line. I was able to go to bigger taller bars and use everything stock.
I hate I didn't change the seat to my low rider. My wife loves this seat.

Stock Diamondback CVo part number is 38921-09 and is 60.7" You want part number 38925-09 (70.7" )  list $109.95 or 38926-09 ( 72.7 ) list $119.95 Kutter gives you 20 off. All OEM and Custom Cble lenghts are in the rear of your 2012 or 2013 Harley part catalog. You decide but at 11" rise I would go minimum 66.7.

Brake kit is also in there

Looks good! is it comfortable?  Taller bars for me made my arms tired on log rides.
I like the looks though.

I haven't rode it yet. I will try riding it today and we are going on a longer ride this weekend.

Brian,
I wonder why mine can with a 65 inch cable. Maybe the assembly line was out of stock that day. I took it off and measured it on the ground. Not sure but it works great now. OH, and the guys at Harley over in my area didn't know where to look for the cable in the book. Everything on the Bars install went well. I just had to learn the ignition switch devise. Believe me, I understand it completely now. Since I was that close to it, I wanted to take it off the bike and work with it for about a hour so it wouldn't be such a mystery.

Either way, I'm changing my seat, taking the back rest off and getting on the back roads today after work.

My son has to be at a college combine in Atlanta that weekend The National Underclassman Combine. we were both gonna fly and I usually just sit there for 8 hours and watch him throw the ball and compete but i have been to a hundred of those combines it seems like. I will look at some dates, send me preliminary Itenerrary if you have one brother. Great job on the bars and the Tour pak

Your bike looks great! :2vrolijk_21:  I love the taller bars as they not only look good but are so much more comfortable!   I have the WO 577's and love them.  I also find the stock seat to be outstanding.

On my 2012 FLHXSE3 the stock lines measured 65 inches each.  I put on 12" Yaffee's and purchased +6 on both.  Probably could have gotten by with +4.  Magnum Shielding changes the top brake line into two lines just in case you decide to go with taller bars in the future you don't need to buy the whole line again.

I was finally able to get out on the road with it last night. The bars are 11" KSTs and they have plenty of  hieght for me. It seems to be easier to handle and control. I personally wouldn't go any higher for fear of hands going to sleep on long trips. I can tell I do set up strater and not hunched over.
