Oil Cooler Adapter p/n 26041-05A
« on: May 20, 2013, 03:25:07 PM »

I am trying to remove my 2008 FLHRSE4 oil cooler adapter assembly.  It is attached to the crankcase with the subject externally threaded "adapter" which has an internal hex.  No SAE or metric hex or star drive that I can find will fit.  Is a special HD ($$$$) tool required to remove this, or can anybody tell me what size hex driver is required??  The CVO maintenance manual only says "Remove the oil filter adapter" but makes no mention of tools required.  Thanks!

I know it is bigger than 3/8, I had a Chisel that the shaft fit then I used a cresent wrench to loosen. I'm thinking it is 1/2 inch Allen.

It requires a 7/16 Hex bit.  An odd ball size.  Typical hex bit sets don't include it.  Sears or Ebay!

Thanks a lot!  Harbor Freight has a hex impact set that includes several "unusual sizes" including 7/16.  With the customary 20% discount, the entire set is under $20. I am now back on track to install my new Jagg 10 row side mount cooler with fan. That should provide better clearance for my non stock front fender as well as help keep my oil cooler in the Arizona summer.
