Cam is getting near the top of the list
« on: May 20, 2013, 10:10:56 PM »

I am considering the wood 777.  Anyone put it in and how do you like it. I am mainly looking for top end power like to pass on a 2 lane, but don't want to suffer on the bottom end either. If you have one what did it do to your highway mpg? On the bike now I have a Fuelmoto catless head pipe, full sac 2" baffles in the stock cans and a TSS dyno tuned. Any info would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and ride safe!

My brother put the 777's in his 2012 103 street glide last year. He also added pistons and heads.

I've ridden it and I like the extra rpm's you get over the stock 255's in the 110's. I understand that the 777's need some extra compression to really work. I hear their 555's still have that low end grunt but will run out farther than the 555's.

If you just drop the 777 cams in you will be very disappointed. I tuned a bike with that set up and the numbers where 103/119 however the tq was 70 at 2000 rpm, 80 at 2500, 100 tq at 3000 rpm and 110 (finally) at 3200 rpm. Peak tq ,119, was at 4000.
You need lots of compression and some good head work to make these cams bark like they should.

as a 777 cam owner I had the same experience as Doc did in a stock engine.  My heads are currently out to be re-worked and increased compression.  If you plan to keep stock compression you might be better with the 555 cam

If want a plug/play cam in the Wood line-up, then the 222 would be a good choice.
Step the torque right up quickly.

For a stock bolt in cam our Genesis 577 works very well and does not need any other mods to produce a very broad tq range.
We are located in Fort worth,  There are a few others as well that we have tested that will make have the same type of results. Each cam is going to go a bit one way or the other from the next.

I will have another 110 here to swap this cam into and we are also adding a SE 58 T/B to the mix. Customer is a great guy and I am sure if you asked him he would be ok with you going for a ride on it.. I am looking forward to this one as I know what it will do.. BVOB will be posting up a sheet here soon on the 110 with our cam and a set of Deweys heads.. SAE numbers in the 120 hp range and almost 130 tq.  I am not 100% on what was done to the heads but from what I was told it was a basic deal nothing crazy at all.. I fully understand that is bot what you are looking to do but it does show how well some cams will work from stock to modded if you so decide on that down the road

I currently have, Fullsac x pipe and 2.25 baffles with a fuel moto x-over pipe to eliminate the H-D squish pipe, SERT, adjustable pushrods and Woods TW555. 103hp, 117tq. very happy with the set up, pulls hard and keeps going all gears. You will need higher compression with the TW777 for it to work well as doc has said.

Steve is testing our cam with his D pipe now , Do you by chance have a dyno sheet on that set up?

thanks everyone this is thekind of info i was hoping to get. my tuner/mechanic reccomends woods cams i just don't remember which one he recommended. but the 777 is out cause i'm ready to go into the top end yet.
100HP did you notice any difference when you went to the fuelmoto round x-pipe?
it runs good now with the fuelmoto head pipe, 2" fulsac baffles and tts tune i am just ready for a little more. here is a run sheet from the tune i got after adding this stuff.

Surface the heads to establish 10.0 cr,
Install an S&S .570, and let-r-rip.
That simple.

Sorry guys, I have been out on the road working. I wont have dyno  sheet access until I get back next week if you still want to look see.  I can't say that I noticed any seat of the pants difference with the fuel moto under pipe but I do know that with the old stick your hands down and feel method that it is freer flowing and the sound change on the left pipe is deeper and a little louder.  I had bought the X pipe back in 2011 when I got my bike and this was a less expensive way to go then buying the new Fullsac pipe.   My X-pipe has performed and given me the results i wanted, i never liked the squish and tried to have a pipe made before Fuel Moto did it. Then just bought theirs since I live close to them..

Just to set the record straight Fullsac had the ''XD'' pipe months before fuelmoto.....seems as if fuel moto is always a few months behind on pipe designs.....makes ya think huh....lol
