Difference between black and orange Harley Super Tuners?
« on: May 27, 2013, 09:58:42 PM »

I think the black is the 2011 version and the orange is the 2012 version, but are there any differences in programming or performance?

There are several versions, with the Black ones first being released in 2008. The Orange colored case is the newer one.

The orange VCI first showed up in the 2011 SE Catalog.  As best I can tell by reading the descriptions for the 2010 version and the 2011, the only difference appears to be the color.  The 2009-2010 black one also had the capability to store data onboard, USB connectivity, and the pushbutton just like the 2011 orange version.  :nixweiss:  Of course there were earlier versions of the black one that didn't have those features I just mentioned, and the obvious visual clue is the lack of the pushbutton.

I have the P/N 32109-08B Super Tuner SE Pro on my 08 Springer and it's orange.  The only thing that really freaks me out is the $459.95 price I paid for it.   :uhoh:

And... both of those are SERTs and not SEPSTs or SESTs.

Really?  Seems people call things whatever these days.  Same VCI.  Front and back.

well, in teaching mode... there is a SERT put out by MOCO, THEN there was the SEST/SEPST also put out by MOCO.  I do not have the years this happened, I think 08 was the last of the SERTs, but unsure.

The SERT was the product that TTS made for Harley.  When Harley decided to find a different vendor they changed the name to the SEPST.  If you want to know the history ask Steve Cole.

Jerry, I know the history, but try to pull it out from members so that they remember it later.  SEST/SEPST is manufactured by SPX, a major tool mfg/supplier like Kent Tools, etc.  Oh...  PV is manufactured by Drew Technologies, BTW.

If the VCI has a button on it, that IS a SPX product and NOT a TTS product.

I realize that folks call the newest tuner from HD a 'race tuner', but in reality...  it is NOT a 'race tuner', it is a 'super tuner'.  This usually would be nit picking, except that BOTH of those products, the Race Tuner, and the Super Tuner, have been sold by Dealers.  World of difference between the two.  SERT was a pre O2 tuner, and the SEPST is a post O2 tuner.

My two cents is this:  when one is able to do so, buy a TTS.  NOT a SEPST.  Not a PV, either.  But... the world isn't perfect and one needs to touch base with the tuner they will be using and simply ASK what tuning product they like to use the best.  For a DIY tune?  Wow... SEPST would be my LAST choice in things.

Harley also had a piggy back kind of deal. Only seen it in a catalog.
