4 point docking hardware problem
« on: May 31, 2013, 09:27:38 PM »

So I ordered the 4 point docking hardware in black (54246-09) and 2 sets of small black magnetic covers (48225-40) and here is the problem. The front docking point has a chrome spacer inside of the removable mounting point that the magnetic cover does not cover. The cover is simply not deep enough. According to the catalog I ordered the correct covers.....first you would THINK that HD would supply a black spacer if you are buying the black docking kit, but now I have 4 black covers covering the mounts with this BIG A** chrome spacer out in the open!!! They make a large black cover but does anybody know if large means diameter or length? It's 48223-10. I don't mind ordering that if they are correct--I could keep the extra 2 covers as spares.

I was unable to find a cover that would extend over the chromed spacer.  Since I was having the end caps on the SERG mufflers black powder coated, I toss the two spacer in too.  Cost me $5.  Came out good.  I'm still struggling everytime I mount a rack as the 4 pt seems a hair too wide.  Been that way since I got the SESG2.  I still perfer the old detachable system...easier in my opinion.

The other thing I found strange is that the front of the 4 point TP rack goes over the spacer and not the actual mount points. But when I put the backrest on it goes over the front 4 point mount and does not touch the spacer. Is this so you can use them both if you wanted to? It's my first time with a 4 point detachable setup.

If I'm tracking on your question, yep.  You can mount two accessories such as the passenger's butt stopper & a rack.

Gotcha...now if I could find and answer to the original question about the magnetic covers.

I have the same issue/concern that you have. I have the 4 point docking hardware of the 12 SERGC also.
I stopped by the shop today, was told no such thing to cover that chrome section.
Most of the time they are right. I can only hope they missed this one.
But I think we are out of luck.

Thanks Chip.....how could they supply a chrome spacer with all black hardware---stupid!!!!   Maybe powder coat it since it only touches the rubber on the front of the TP mount??? It might last depending on how often the TP is taken on and off :-\

I have given up trying to rationale how the motor company does things.

Went through the same thing last year, same silly look on my face as you probably had on yours. It is what it is I guess. As far as I know they do not make a longer cover to hide the chrome spacer. As mentioned above powder coat them or maybe paint them, though that probably won't last very long.
