Weather App, looking for a good one....
« on: June 02, 2013, 06:57:06 AM »

Had a REAL nice weather app on my Droid.  Phone did an "upgrade" and now it no longer works.  What are some of you using?   I REALLY liked my old one.  Went to the Verizon store yesterday and only got so-so service and the girl said that "widget" app would not work anymore.....  it was THE reason I have this phone, loved the quick access to the cities I normally ride through and had the Doppler radar, extended forecast etc....

I'm a truck driver, On my Sprint HTC Droid i use Weather Bug & Weather Channel, The Weather Bug app. will give you a warning for any bad weather in the area, I've used it for several years with no problem. I use the free one, been told you can upgrade by buying the app. and its much better.  :nixweiss:

I just deleted The Weather Channel app from my IPhone 5.  Got tired of it being wrong 50% of the time.  I found it amazing how you can be standing next to 2-3 other people with the same app, all updated to "real time"' and the forecasts would all be different. Try it, what a joke.  Looking for a good one myself.

Have started using Weather Bug more than the Weather Channel and like it. It loads to your current location too--nice.  But I'd be open to trying a better one if it's out there.

I use Radar US on my iphone. Compared it to my sons phone with the weather channel app on his. Mine showed rain coming in and it rained in a few minutes, his WC app showed all clear. Tied in to NOAA radars I think.

I use weather bug as well. But to be honest when I leave I still take the rain gear.  Here in Ohio as the heat of the day comes we seem to get pop up storms toward the eve. It seems like I always get rained on any how.  So it don't bother me much any more.  Riding in the rain never has its cleaning the darn thing when I get home.

You might also do a search for the apps on your phone as well and read about the description.   See what they are rated as well.  Try a few free ones and see what you think of them.  If you don't like them delete them.

But I like the free weather bug on my android.  It's not 100%. Accurate all the time.   But what can. Expect for free.  It is pretty close.   Make sure you do the updates when they are required.  If not some of the features may not work when you want to use them.   One of your local tv weather channels also may be linked to it as well which may also help with your local weather radar being updated faster and getting watches and warnings sent via text message as well.

But I am sure there are better ones and user friendly ones out there as well.   But they may cost a few bucks.

Like Marty I look over my windshield and see what it looks like.  Other than that I use the National Weather Service, it has been the most accurate that I have found on a consistent basis.

+1 for Weather Bug. Like their radar. Use it while on the bike all the time.

I've been ok with the WC app. Just wondering if you or others had it on the same zip code when getting different forecasts or one of the group had it set on the arrow icon that tries to sat. your location. My gf had it on that when we were in Disney last week and I was wondering why her info was different. Then I saw it said she was in Kissimmee and I had mine zipped to Orlando. After changing that our forecasts were always the same. Not all that accurate, but it is Florida, but they were the same. Could also be because we're shared account. Either way I do like the app and it's pretty accurate where I live.
