Thanks guys for the response. Joe, I was wondering if the 330's raised your bike any noticeable height? Not sure if the current OEM shocks are 12" or 13". I can check that out, but since we have the same bike, I thought I'd ask the question. Also, I'm going to call Dan at Bitubo to get his recommendation. Thanks for the help.
Alan
If you've got an Ultra, they are 13" shocks. Personally, I would not lower the rear end unless you are having problems getting your feet on the ground. The ground clearance in curves is more important to me than the "look". On a Street Glide, the rear is a 12" shock and the front end is "normal", so you have the option of keeping it at 12" with the 300mm shock, or raising it to be the same as the Ultra with the 330mm. I'm 98% sure that the RG Custom bikes have 12" shock on the rear as well, with a normal height front end, so the '09 CVO RG would be the same as the CVO SG. The '11 CVO RG Ultra had 13", but they only made that bike one year.
Normally, the halfway setting is good on the rebound damping. Spring preload will depend on weight, of course. You'll probably find that you will find a setting for two up/loaded, and another for solo. Keep in mind that the compression damping adjustment is NOT a linear adjustment...the knob you're turning is basically a needle valve, so each click from 0-10 is not the same as each click from 10-20 (I can't remember how many clicks are available). When you get past about 10 clicks, each click thereafter has more effect than each click from 5-10, if I'm making myself clear. On my Vrod, I would set the preload for two up (we never loaded it with any luggage), and then make adjustments with only the compression damping knob to make the ride "softer" or "firmer" if not riding two up. Once you get the Bitubo's dialed in, there is no better shock, IMO.
