Mine are down facing forwards. No clearance issues.

Janet and went for a nice two-up ride Tuesday night so we could check out the shocks. Neither of us noticed any hard bottoming but the rubber bumper looked like it may have hit so I cranked the preload up one more turn.

I also turned the shocks over so the canister was down and forward, as Brad suggested. When I had the shocks off, I was able to to get a good look at the threads for the preload adjustment and I've got more adjustment left than I thought. It definitely looks like I've got more clearance between the shock and bag that way and I pulled the shims that I had installed to space the top of the bag away. That should do it!

We're going to spend most of tomorrow on the bike and I'm looking forward to a pleasant ride for both of us.

Thanks to all who helped with info and suggestions. Next on my list, Daymakers! Pretty sure I can handle that one on my own....then I'm thinking cams.

Just put Bitubos in my Street Glide (canister down/forward), but have not had a chance to ride. Please share what settings you prefer for the most comfortable ride.

Daymaker & LED Motolights go on next week.

Thanks

I like a stiffer ride so I've set the Compression damping 11 clicks from soft and the Rebound damping at the middle setting. That said, I've only ridden about 75 miles and I may make adjustments as I ride more but that's where I've chose to start. So far, I like it.

Will be ordering my Bitubos in the next couple of weeks.  Did you guys go with the 300 or 330mm shock?

I went with the 330's.

Thanks guys for the response.  Joe, I was wondering if the 330's raised your bike any noticeable height?  Not sure if the current OEM shocks are 12" or 13".  I can check that out, but since we have the same bike, I thought I'd ask the question.  Also, I'm going to call Dan at Bitubo to get his recommendation.  Thanks for the help.

If you've got an Ultra, they are 13" shocks.  Personally, I would not lower the rear end unless you are having problems getting your feet on the ground.  The ground clearance in curves is more important to me than the "look".  On a Street Glide, the rear is a 12" shock and the front end is "normal", so you have the option of keeping it at 12" with the 300mm shock, or raising it to be the same as the Ultra with the 330mm.  I'm 98% sure that the RG Custom bikes have 12" shock on the rear as well, with a normal height front end, so the '09 CVO RG would be the same as the CVO SG.  The '11 CVO RG Ultra had 13", but they only made that bike one year.

Normally, the halfway setting is good on the rebound damping.  Spring preload will depend on weight, of course.  You'll probably find that you will find a setting for two up/loaded, and another for solo.  Keep in mind that the compression damping adjustment is NOT a linear adjustment...the knob you're turning is basically a needle valve, so each click from 0-10 is not the same as each click from 10-20 (I can't remember how many clicks are available).  When you get past about 10 clicks, each click thereafter has more effect than each click from 5-10, if I'm making myself clear.  On my Vrod, I would set the preload for two up (we never loaded it with any luggage), and then make adjustments with only the compression damping knob to make the ride "softer" or "firmer" if not riding two up.  Once you get the Bitubo's dialed in, there is no better shock, IMO.

As Rider said, the stock shocks were 13". No noticeable difference in the ride height at all. If anything, the little bit of spring sag when I sit on the bike puts me a little closer to the ground, but it's really not noticeable. If I'm doing the math right, 330 mm = 12.991".
