The old B&M Trick Shift.  If you want to spend extra there is a synthetic version.  In the primary I personally don't mess with it.

The people at Barnett and Rivera have both told me either the B&M juice or old standard type F fluid is their recommendation also.  I really do think these are the best options for the older bikes too.  I'm not comfortable using them on the newer bikes though.  The new compensators are so weak to begin with I'm not satisfied ATF is the ideal fluid to make them last for what little lifetime they'll have.

This is one hole that bout anything will work in. The fact that the compensator is junk will not be changed by the type of fluid used. That being said, I use Lucas.

As long as what you use is fully compatible with a wet clutch, it's not exactly an earth shaking decision.  You are basically lubricating a chain and cooling a clutch (highly simplified explanation of course).  As for the compensator, I seriously doubt it will make a difference what lube anyone uses.  Lube choice can't fix lousy design and materials.

Personally, I use ATF.  My rationale for making the change many years ago was that the other stuff I'd tried over the years always seemed to cause some clutch drag, and the one fluid definitely formulated to work well with wet clutches is ATF.  And in this case theory was proved out the first time I tried the ATF.  My clutch actually releases fully even after cold starts.
As for the arguments that it's not heavy duty enough for a Harley primary, consider if you will that ATF is used in 4X4 transfer cases as well as transmissions, and in vehicles with vastly more power than a Harley.  If it's good enough for a two ton muscle car putting out 500 plus horsepower, I'm guessing it will be good enough for a Harley.

My dealer said the SE Syn3 20w 50 in all three holes. They just overhauled the whole bottom end under ESP and thats what they charged on the work order was 6 qts of SE 20w 50. Now while at what seems to be a reliable independant shop last week having a rear tire installed he said SE Syn3 20w 50 was ok for the engine but recomended Drag Specialties Trans oil for big Twins 85w 140 and Drag Specialties primary oil for the primary case? So now I'm confused. I just changed the engine at the 1,000 mile post overhaul mark and while there I put the 85w140 in the trans.  I figured I would leave the primary alone till the next 5,000 mile sevice, then change the primary. Do you guys think I Did I somthing wrong?
