seat suggestions
« on: June 09, 2013, 11:46:23 PM »

I've now ridden a couple thousand miles on my 12 SESG and the stock seat is not making me happy. It's too hard and of course no back rest. I find myself wriggling around trying to get comfortable.

I could go with a solo seat as it's just me riding, but that's not my main issue. The height of the seat is just right but I need suggestions for something softer, no wider, no lower or higher. And it must have a backrest.

What's best to go with? Mustang, Corbin, HD?

Buy a Corbin thru HD Dude, it's cheaper than buying direct from Corbin.

What's "best" is personal preference, just like which color, which mufflers, which handlebars, which windshield.....
I would suggest "try before you buy", (most) Harley dealers have "demo" seats that you can try.
Independent shops might also have "demo" seats, or even a used one hanging on the wall that you could try.
Most of the vendors (Corbin, Mustang, Lepera, Danny Gray, C&C, and others) are set up at larger rallys, and offer "demo rides" with their products.
There are members here that have modified the stock seat, even adding a backrest.

That being said, find what You like best, and what fits You best...

Take a ride up to Ormond Beach to the Corbin shop and see what the Corbin seats are like.  I have a Mustang solo seat with a backrest which is slightly wider and thicker, looks like an inch thicker.

I had a Mustang seat on a 98 EG -and IMO better back support (after 5 back operations it's a HUGE factor for me) and much more comfortable than stock but it added almost an inch in ride height. I ended up taking the bumpers off and fitting the pan with carpet. A little better but not much. Then had a gel insert added and the tongue modified (not so wide in the leg area). No difference in height but it did make a noticeable improvement and a comfortable ride for the long hauls.

I went into the Dealership today and after sitting on a RKC for about 20 minutes I've decided that this is the perfect seat. Yeh I know it's going to look a bit strange with the basketweave but it's got the right amount of squishyness and I might not even need the backrest. I can also change the pad on the passenger backrest.

HD will take it back if I find it doesn't work but I have a feeling it's going to be all good.

Okay, same old song and dance here but I love my reduced reach C&C seat.....

My first & last CVO, Scarlett, arrived 6-1-12. I always remember my mom while riding.  She had smarts with a spirit of independence & adventure. "You Gotta LIVE!", was her motto; her favorite color red, and she loved BLING.

I love my c&c seat w gel insert and riders backrest. Im 5' 10" and had em push me 1" forward on the seat build.
I will say the backrest does not have the adjustability of my mustang seat n backreast on my ultra tho

Stock '12 SESG seat is WORSE THAN WORTHLESS!

I have two seats... A Corbin DualTour with orange and silver flame stitching that I love... but it's narrow, hard, and forward sloping for the BSR. It's on the bike when I am riding solo without the Tour Pak... like TODAY!

The other seat is a Mustang Super Touring Wide Vintage seat that is super-comfy for both me and a BSR, but isn't nearly as good looking as the Corbin.

Both seats have integrated backrests that are part of the seats... so swapping sets takes all of 1 minute.

Mustang vintage on my sesg3.   Can't beat it for comfort.  LookdS great too.   Not sure about the rk seat on there.  I know you will still want a backrest.    We all do.  ;)
