Assembly Time?
« on: June 10, 2013, 02:03:40 PM »

Just curious, for those that ordered thier UC.

How long did it take the Dealer to assemble the bike so you could ride it home?

I was told 6 working days. Bike got in last Wednesday and was told it would be ready this Friday.  I got it that my bike is not the only one that was being delivered.  But it just seems like a long time.

It's gotta be about how busy they are, or how important you are to them. Maybe a little of both. I was called and told that they just accepted delivery of my bike on a weekday evening. They told me to come in the following day at closing time to pick it up. Again, maybe they weren't that busy. Or maybe because I bought their big dollar bike and was friendly with the owner's son. It only took a day.

I don't think you want them to rush it - they might miss something.

I'm not sure how disassembled they are when they ship, but when I bought my limited, it was still on the pallet.  They had it ready to go in 2 hours.  It could very well be that they'd already started assembly prior to my making the purchase.

I def don't want them to miss anything on assembly.  Just been waiting since September to get the bike.

There is very little "assembly" by the dealership these days.  There is some minor repostitioning of things like mirrors, and they have to install the master fuse and program the security system, but if I remember correctly they don't even have to reposition the Tour Paks these days.  So you're talking about removing the bike from the shipping crate (no big deal), removing the protective coverings from various parts of the bike, repositioning and tightening things like mirrors, installing the fuse and programming the security system, and then you HOPE they actually inspect all the stuff on the Harley checklist but don't hold your breath.

BTW, the Harley time standards allow the dealer 1.7 hours to do the entire process on a Touring model.

That's correct Jerry.  The tour paks aren't on the rack backwards anymore..

My dealer had my bike ready two days after it landed and that included changing the exhaust system, adding a SERT, and tuning.

Mine arrived at about 2PM, and I was driving the stock bike home it home at 5PM.  They prepped it while I took care of paperwork & did some accessory shopping.  Took it back a week later to have led headlight/passing lights, Fullsac X-Pipe, T/P Hinges, Passing lamp independent control, and T/P Turn signal harness installed.

Thanks for the input guys.  I figured it was only a couple hour process. Maybe the bikes require more assembly for the overseas shipping.  Either way the weather looks good this weekend.
