S&S 551 cams
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:56:53 PM »

I have a 2013 cvo ultra. I just took out the cat and replaced the headers with S&S power tune duals and paired those with Vance&Hines monster round slipons. I had it dyno'd with the SERT. I am very happy with the sound and performance but am thinking about taking the next step and doing the cams and push rods. My shop and also the dyno tech are recommending the S&S 551 cams. Just wondering if any one has any experience with these, good or bad. In looking at them I think they will be perfect for my needs which is great torque from idle through 4k. My current numbers are 87 HP and 110 TQ. With these cams added it should add about 15 to each of those numbers

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks

You won't see a 15/15 gain from just adding cams....you might see 8/8 with a good tune. Before you pull the trigger on changing cams you need to know that NUMBERS are not everything....numbers don't tell the story how the bike is running. You already have the highest low end tq cam you can get with the stock 255's....if you change them out look for a LOSS of, at least, 10lbs of tq between 1500 and 2800 rpm's, but you'll see an increase of 8lbs above 4000 rpm. Not a good trade off in my opinion.

Put Andrews 54 cams in my 09 110 CVO RG and love them. Both torque and HP increased.

Thanks for the advice. I am happy with the performance I am getting. I have great torque over a wide spectrum, but getting more would be even better. And more HP would be good too

Any suggestions on what to use for cams and pushrods with my new exhaust described above?

Thanks
