MSF Skilled Rider Course
« on: June 13, 2013, 04:55:16 PM »

Signed up for the Skilled Rider Course this weekend. Took it a few years ago but thought it would be a good way to get more familiar and comfortable on my new bike. It handles different than the '07 did. Hope I don't need any body work after, bike or me! I'm taking off the highway pegs and wrapping some rubber hose on the engine guards. I saw a few folks go down the first time I took the class.

Do your self a big favor and skip the MSF Skilled Rider course and sign up for Midwest Police Motorcycle course in Troy Michigan.  Learn how to ride like a motor cop on their bikes and not mess yours.  It cost a little more but you will never regret it.  I lost tract of how many times I had to lift their Police Road King the first day.  4 day course over a long weekend.  http://www.midwestmotorcycletraining.com/

I'll look into that. Going to stay with this plan for now. Would like to do a course like that or a Ride Like a Pro course next. Watching some of those guys and gals do what they do on these big bikes is amazing to me, I know I can do it with a little more training.

If you can get your hands on some old fire hose wrap them in that, or even put it over the rubber. My friend is a police instructor and that's what they use. Says the rubber will come off pretty quickly. Even go as far as to cutting it open and taping it to outer most fairing edges. Said thats the only other point that may contact on an e glide.

Leave the bags at home and wrap the bars with cheap hose.  Do it on your bike, that's the one you ride.

I'd also remove the fairing lowers and wrap the highway bar with hose.

I signed up for the Ride Like a Pro course this past Tuesday. Our HOG chapter arranged for the instructor to come up from Atlanta and give us the class at our dealership. I was just talking about pulling the saddlebags and lowers before I go to the class. Hose on the bars sounds like a good idea too. The class is in October so I've got plenty of time to prepare. I'm looking forward to it.

The skills transfer.  Learning the techniques is what it's all about.  One day isn't enough to master what you need to learn to ride an 800 lb motor.  Need to fall lots and learn to pick it back up all by your self!  After 4 days you may be ready to do it on your own motor.  JMO
