2013 Cvo road glide likes the look of stock pipes BUT...
« on: June 13, 2013, 05:31:19 PM »

Hi Guys
But I was thinking of de-baffle the stock pipes. Has anyone done this
Yet... the game plan is to have no baffles in the stock pipes.
What's the pro and cons of doing this?? And would I need to buy a tuner like dynojet PV??

Cheers

You can remove the baffles if you want to by cutting them out. Sounds like crap and you lose your performance back pressure.  (My thoughts only) Replace the stock baffles with the Fullsac CVO cores, three sizes available, 1.75 quiet, 2.00 rumble, 2.25 deep growl-which is my choice. Increased performance, better sound and if that is all you do, you won't have to retune.

Install the Fullsac 2 1/4" SD cores, they make some noise for sure. If they are to loud you can wrap them with the stock muffler packing.

X2 on fullsac.  You might check out their web sight and take a look at their stage one set up.  If you tell them your a member here they give you a discount.  They have really good customer service and if you call them and talk to them about what your wanting to do they can walk you through what would need to be done.  Big difference in in the way bike runs.  Search function isn't working for me right now but if you just look through exhaust you will see thing with fullsac in the heading.  Just read about them.

Slap head,

I think you received answers regarding replacing the muffler baffles. Your question asked about taking out the cat from the head pipe.

The answer is YES! I did mine myself. You simply remove the head pipe and cut a 3"x5" patch out of the boxed area where the two head pipes come together. Be sure to cut the batch on the outside so the chrome cover will hide the patch. To remove the cat I used a hammer and a chisel. This took me all of 15 minutes.

Next take the header and the batch to any local shop that can do welding and have them weld in the batch. Cost me $30. Much, much cheaper than buying and shipping a Fulsac header all the way to the UK.

This is the basic design of the Fullsac header anyway and will increase exhaust flow.

There are numerous muffler options and I hear about the Fulsac baffles all the time on this website but I've never heard our seen them anywhere.

You will need a tuner. My suggestion and I've had great luck with PowerCommander. I ordered mine from www.fuelmoto.com. I told them what my setup was and they sent me the PCV with the correct tune already loaded in. You simply unplug yours and plug this one in.

Like I said I did mine myself and saved the cost of a new header (approx $300) and did not spend money on a dyno tune (approx $100)

Don't listen to all the crap a out performance. Save your money, keep your bike looking stock and spend your money on a good quality set of mufflers.

I would go to the source: fullsac.com and call Steve to get the straight story rather than surfing the web.

Pros?
None

Cons?
Loud
Hard to tune (depending if you keep your stock header with cat intact.)
MAY affect your warranty (depending on your dealer)

You may want to look at the combo that Fuelmoto has or Fullsac, both get you a good running system.

I'm going to be a little bit more blunt....Removing the baffles and just having open mufflers is a HORRIBLE idea.  The only thing you'll gain is a LOT of noise.  The bike will run like crap and be all but impossible to tune properly.

If you want a plug and play system, go with proven items.  The Fullsac Stage I, with the XD pipe, 2.25" baffles, and TTS Mastertune with Fullsac's (Steve) map will give you a good running bike that is plenty loud enough (IMO), cool the bike down a little, and is likely the only thing you'll have to do with regards to tuning.

So if I removed my cat, installed mufflers (V&H), bought a pertuned PCV that I plugged in, saved several hundred dollars and my bike runs flawlessly what would I have gained from buying a Fulsac setup and the TTS tuner?

What, a couple of HP/TQ on a dyno?

Like I said, I've riding for YEARS around Missouri with trips to Yellowstone, Florida, Milwaukee, Blueridge Parkway and all points in between and I have yet to see anyone running a Fullsac setup. Nobody.... To me, 20 years of riding and talking to other bikers and never hearing of or about Fulsac, except on this site, says a lot.

I'm sure Steve makes great stuff but let's not pass aroung the glass of koolaide likes its the gospel. I'd like to see  some very convincing 3rd party engineering data proving how Steve's X-pipe design is hundreds of dollars better than a Decatted 2-1-2 header. A little I can understand but discrediting the benefits of a Decatted stock header borders on silly.

I'm guessing V&H, Reinhart, PowerCommander and the many other Harely pipe and tuner manufacturers will soon be out of business because of the superior engineering of Fulsac.

Not knocking you Steve, but CVOHarely.com is a Fulsac leaning site. It just gets old.

When I picked mine up last week I asked about removing the cat, and was told that in the UK they are fitted into the silencers and it is a very simple remove the torx bolts and pull out job. This was the dealer's lead tech so would assume he would be correct !

Unless the international version of the bike requires that the cat be in the mufflers and not the headpipe, your tech is mistaken.  The CAT used to be in the mufflers, but not in recent years.
